Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Wednesday, 06/13/12 and Thursday, 06/14/12. ALMETRIS DUREN HALL, 2624 Whitis Ave Theft / Evading Arrest / Assist Outside Agency: The UT Police Department received information a non-UT subject had removed a mountain bicycle that had been in the bike racks located on the northeast side of the dormitory. During the investigation, the officers located the bicycle as well as the subject several miles away from campus. The suspect became evasive in answering the officer’s questions and when told he was under arrest for Theft, decided he needed to go for a quick jog. The subject turned and left the area by running across a four lane highway. With the officers in pursuit, the subject took the officers on a tour of his neighborhood. When the officers became tired of the jog, they ended the pursuit and took the subject into custody. The officers soon learned why the subject had an over powering need to leave, he had several outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrants for Theft as well as Evading Arrest. Additional charges for Evading Arrest were filed and the subject was transported to Central Booking. Recovered Value: $1,350.00. Occurred on: 6-13-12, at 5:49 PM. JESTER EAST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Criminal Mischief: Two future UT students discovered an unknown subject, wearing only a pink shirt, standing inside their room. The subject grabbed the student’s box of Cheese-It and began marking his personal territory inside the box. The students pushed the unknown subject out of their dorm room and notified the UT Police Department. The responding officers were able to follow a wet trail that led to a bio-hazard filled box of Cheese-It. The officers searched the area and were unable to locate the unknown subject. The subject was described as: white male, 5’-10”, with a thick build and blond hair. Loss value: $3.00. Estimated damage: $150.00. Occurred on: 6-14-12, at 4:02 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: A locked door can do wonderful things, like preventing a half naked individual from aggravating you while urinating inside your Cheese-It box. JESTER EAST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Public Intoxication / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: UT Police Officers responded to a report of a future UT student, inside a first floor restroom paying penance after having paid homage to Dionysus all night. When the student exited the restroom, the officers noted the student was still wearing the evidence of his penance. The officers also detected a strong odor of alcohol on the student’s breath and noted other signs of intoxication. The student informed the officers he had attended a party at the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and could not remember how much alcohol he had consumed, but knew it was a lot. The student was asked if there was someone he could call that would take care of him until he sobered up. The student called his roommate. The officers soon determined the roommate was not capable of taking care of his intoxicated roommate, since he himself was also intoxicated. Austin EMS treated the first student for alcohol poisoning at the scene and transported him to a local area hospital. The second student was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Both students were referred to the Dean of Student’s Office. Occurred on: 6-14-12, at 2:07 AM. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 12 Alarm Calls, 2 Suspicious Activity reports, 2 unsecured door report, between 06/13/12 and 06/14/12.
