Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Wednesday, 11/21/12 and Monday, 26, 2012. ALUMNI CENTER, 2110 San Jacinto Blvd. Theft: A black Apple iPhone was reported stolen after being left unattended on top of a table. During the investigation, the officer learned the victim had been watching football and had placed his phone down for 15 minutes. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred on: 11-22-12, between 9:30 PM and 9:45 PM. DKR TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2200 Robert Dedman Criminal Trespass: A UT student was observed creating a disturbance at one of the entrances into the stadium. The student claimed her ticket had been confiscated by a staff member. When the officer took the student to the staff member, the student changed the location to another gate on the opposite side of the stadium. The officer confirmed the student had not purchased a ticket and told her she needed to leave. The student then informed the police officer that she was going to watch the game since her friends were there. The officer again explained to the student, she needed to leave the stadium. The student refused and was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and was transported to Central Booking. The subject was able to watch the game with her new friends, the jailers and other prisoners. Occurred on: 11-22-12, at 8:00 PM. DKR TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2200 Robert Dedman Public Intoxication / Assist Outside Agency: A UT staff member reported a non-UT subject was yelling at a TCU spectator. During the investigation, the officers observed a second subject attempting to control the subject that was yelling. As the investigation moved from the stadium seating to the concourse, the officers detected a strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and noted other signs of intoxication. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication. The offices soon leaned the subject had 4 outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrants for various traffic offenses. The subject was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-22-12, at 7:47 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A black Samsung cell phone was reported stolen after being left unattended and unsecured inside the 1st floor TV room. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred on: 11-22-12, between 6:30 PM and 8:00 PM. NORTH END ZONE, 405 East 23rd Street Theft: A non-UT subject discovered an unknown person had opened her closed backpack and removed two credit cards and her personal identification. During the investigation, the officers learned the backpack had been left unattended and unsecured. Occurred on: 11-22-12, at 7:34 PM. PARKING LOT 80, 1900 Red River Graffiti: A UT Police Officer discovered two areas on a brick wall where an unknown subject had used black spray paint to write words. Estimated Repair: $100.00. Discovered on: 11-20-12, at 8:00AM. SANCHEZ BUILDING, 1912 Speedway Theft: A black HD Panasonic video camera was reported stolen from an unsecured second floor office. Loss value: $600.00. Occurred between: 11-19-12 and 11-23-12. 700 BLOCK EAST DEAN KEETON Theft: The UT Police Department received notification a non-UT subject had removed a mountain bicycle from the bike racks located on the north side of Townes Hall. During the investigation, the officers located the bike in the back of a red Honda and stopped the vehicle. The driver was taken into custody for Theft and transported to Central Booking. During a search of the vehicle, the officers discovered the subject had a second bike in his possession. The bicycle was impounded to prevent the consequences of Theft. Recovered value: $1,350.00. Occurred on: 11-24-12, at 9:43 PM. 2500 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD. Theft: A black Roadmaster mountain bicycle was reported stolen from the bike racks located on the west side of Creekside Residence Hall. During the investigation, the officer learned the bicycle had been secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $50.00. Occurred between: 11-20-12 and 11-21-12. 2700 BLOCK GUADALUPE Criminal Mischief / Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject stopped a uniformed UT Police Officer and stated a subject had entered a local business and had damaged several bathroom fixtures then left the building. During the investigation, the officer located several employees following the suspect as he was leaving the area. When the suspect observed the officer he attempted to run. The decision was short lived. The employees stopped the suspect and detained him. The suspect was taken into custody for Criminal Mischief and released to the Austin Police Department. Estimated damage: Unknown at this time. Occurred on: 11-22-12, at 1:33 AM. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 98 Alarm Calls, 5 Suspicious Activity Reports, 4 Suspicious Person reports, 7 Burned Out Light Reports, 8 Unsecured Door Reports between 11/22/12 and 11/26/12. SURE Walk is a student-run volunteer group that provides walks to and from campus to UT students, faculty, and staff, with the help of student volunteers. Volunteers are gathered from trusted organizations from around campus, such as Orange Jackets and APO, and include both males and females. An agency of Student Government, SURE Walk is in service Monday through Thursday from 10 p.m. – 2 a.m. during the fall and spring semesters. Please report your missing property to UTPD Lost and Found at http://www.utexas.edu/police/lostandfound. Or call 512-232-9619 and describe your item to us. If we have your item, we’ll contact you as quickly as possible to arrange its return to you. UTPD handles over 5000 lost and found items each year from campus departments, although we cannot accept clothing, food or drink containers, toiletries, broken or soiled property. Campus departments are encouraged to call 471-4441 to have UTPD pick up lost and found items that are unclaimed after one week. Emergency Text Message Service The University of Texas at Austin and its police department are responsible for notifying faculty, staff, and students of emergency situations (e.g., inclement weather, building evacuations, campus closures, etc.). The University employs a wide variety of tools to make sure everyone on campus is informed during an emergency event—including text messaging. In order to accomplish emergency text messaging more effectively, the University is collecting cell phone numbers from members of our campus community. Effective August 26, 2009, this database of cell phone numbers will be used for emergency text messages. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license. BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. By calling BCAL at 512-232-5050, callers may talk with trained staff members who will assist the caller in exploring available options and strategies as well as referrals to appropriate campus support networks.
