Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Thursday, 03/07/13 and Tuesday, 03/12/13. CENTENNIAL PARK, 1600 Red River Theft / Criminal Trespass Warning: The UT Police Department received notification a non-UT subject had removed a mountain bicycle that had been secured to a light pole with a self-locking cable lock. During the investigation, the officers located the subject with the bicycle several blocks away from campus. The subject was taken into custody for Theft and transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement action taken, the subject was issued a Criminal Trespass Warning. Recovered loss: $1,350.00. Occurred on: 3-10-13, at 1:38 PM. CREEKSIDE RESIDENCE HALL, 2501 San Jacinto Blvd. Theft: A blue Roland mountain bicycle was reported stolen from the bike racks located on the west side of the dormitory. Loss value: $300.00. Occurred between: 2-25-13 and 3-08-13. EAST MALL, 201 East 22nd Street Graffiti: Words written in black marker were discovered on the retaining wall near JGB. Estimated repair: $50.00. Discovered on: 3-11-13, at 9:22 AM. FRANK ERWIN CENTER, 1701 Red River Assault with Injury: A non-UT subject approached another patron attending a event and began asking her questions. When the suspect was not satisfied with the answers she assaulted the victim. The suspect was taken into custody for assault and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 3-0-7-13, at 8:05 PM. JOHN HARGIS HALL, 1811 Red River Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject entered the building and began asking odd questions of the staff. During the investigation, the officers located the subject and issued him a written Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 3-11-13. PETER T FLAWN ACADEMIC CENTER, 2304 Whitis Ave Public Intoxication: Two UT students stopped a UT Police Officer and informed the officer about a student that was passed out on the grassy area by the FAC. During the investigation, the officers located the student and were able to wake him up. The student informed the officers he had been to “a bar.” When asked for his name, the student replied, “A bar.” The officers detected a strong odor of alcohol on the student’s breath and noted other signs of intoxication. The student was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 3-08-13, at 3:40 AM. 200 BLOCK JESTER CIRCLE DRIVE Graffiti: Words were discovered written in blue paint were on the sidewalk located on the south side of the Jester Dormitory. Estimated repair: $50.00. Discovered on: 3-11-13, at 9:27 AM. 2000 BLOCK GUADALUPE Public Intoxication / Assault: A UT Police Officer observed two subjects involved in a verbal disturbance. The officer separated the subjects and learned one subject had been calling the other subject names and had been kicked off of a bus. The student informed the officer the subject had also hit him. During the investigation, the second subject attempted to leave and was stopped a short distance away. The subject was taken into custody for Assault and Public Intoxication. Occurred on: 3-18-13, at 2:16 AM. 2100 BLOCK GUADALUPE Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT Police Officer observed two subjects yelling back and forth. One subject was bleeding from a cut on his face. The officers learned one subject had been drinking and was under the legal age of 21. The second subject was sober. The underage subject was issued a court appearance citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and released to his sober friend. Occurred on: 3-08-13, at 3:53 AM. 2100 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD. Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer observed a non-UT subject hugging a pole. It became apparent as to why when the subject attempted to walk away. The subject was having a difficult time not only walking, but also standing. The subject informed the officers he had been drinking since 7AM and was on his way home. The subject was unable to call anyone and was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. 3-10-13, at 4:11 AM 2100 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD. Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was observed displaying an expired inspection sticker on a white Ford. During the traffic investigation, the officer soon discovered the non-UT driver had an outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrant. The subject was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 3-11-13, at 7:23 PM. 2200 BLOCK GUADALUPE Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer observed a subject fall face first into a bed of vines. During the investigation, the officer learned the subject was from out-of-state and was trying to find the Mega Bus. The officer detected a strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and noted other signs of intoxication. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 3-08-13, at 11:50 PM. 2500 BLOCK GUADALUPE Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was discovered a student passed out in the seated position. During the investigation, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol on the student’s breath and noted other signs of intoxication. The officer soon discovered the student was under the legal age of 21 and issued him a court appearance citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 3-08-13, at 2:58AM. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 48 Alarm Reports, 5 Suspicious Activity Reports, 6 Suspicious Person Reports, 4 Welfare Concerns, 4 Burned Out Light Reports, and 2 Unsecured Door Reports between 3/08/13 and 3/12/13. SURE Walk is a student-run volunteer group that provides walks to and from campus to UT students, faculty, and staff, with the help of student volunteers. Volunteers are gathered from trusted organizations from around campus, such as Orange Jackets and APO, and include both males and females. An agency of Student Government, SURE Walk is in service Monday through Thursday from 10 p.m. – 2 a.m. during the fall and spring semesters. Please report your missing property to UTPD Lost and Found at http://www.utexas.edu/police/lostandfound. Or call 512-232-9619 and describe your item to us. If we have your item, we’ll contact you as quickly as possible to arrange its return to you. UTPD handles over 5000 lost and found items each year from campus departments, although we cannot accept clothing, food or drink containers, toiletries, broken or soiled property. Campus departments are encouraged to call 471-4441 to have UTPD pick up lost and found items that are unclaimed after one week. Emergency Text Message Service The University of Texas at Austin and its police department are responsible for notifying faculty, staff, and students of emergency situations (e.g., inclement weather, building evacuations, campus closures, etc.). The University employs a wide variety of tools to make sure everyone on campus is informed during an emergency event—including text messaging. In order to accomplish emergency text messaging more effectively, the University is collecting cell phone numbers from members of our campus community. Effective August 26, 2009, this database of cell phone numbers will be used for emergency text messages. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license. BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. By calling BCAL at 512-232-5050, callers may talk with trained staff members who will assist the caller in exploring available options and strategies as well as referrals to appropriate campus support networks.
