Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Friday, 05/31/13 and Monday, 06/03/13. BRACKENRIDGE APARTMENTS, 3350 Lake Austin Blvd. Criminal Mischief: A UT student discovered the driver’s side window of her 2004 Honda shattered. During the investigation, the student inventoried her vehicle and did not find any property missing. Estimated damage: $300.00. Occurred on: 6-02-13, between 7:15 PM and 7:45 PM. SAN ANTONIO PARKING GARAGE, 2420 San Antonio Street Criminal Mischief: A UT Police Officer discovered a concrete pillar had been destroyed when it was knocked off its base. Estimated damage: $400.00. Discovered on: 6-2-13, at 10:45 AM. 600 BLOCK COLORADO Public Intoxication: A UT staff member discovered a non-UT subject passed out on the north side of OHH. During the investigation, the subject informed the officer he had “too much liquor” while he was at several downtown establishments. The subject stated he had gotten separated from his friends, but was staying at a hotel somewhere in Austin. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 6-02-13, at 3:56 AM. 600 BLOCK COLORADO Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT staff member discovered a non-UT juvenile “cowering” in an alley on the north side of the Colorado Building. During the investigation, the subject informed the officers she had snuck out and had been drinking beer at a friend’s house. After being dropped off, she decided she wanted to walk around downtown. The subject’s parents were contacted and the officers issued the juvenile a court appearance citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 6-01-13, at 3:02 AM. 900 BLOCK COLORADO Driving While Intoxicated: A grey Nissan was observed traveling the wrong way on a posted One-way street. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol on the non-UT driver’s breath as well as a blank lethargic look on his face. As the driver attempted to exit his vehicle, he locked himself inside twice. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests and the driver displayed a number of clues that indicated he was intoxicated. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 6-03-13, at 2:45 AM. 1800 BLOCK RED RIVER Theft / Assist Outside Agency: The UT Police Department received information a non-UT subject had removed a mountain bicycle from the bike racks located on the west side of the Collections Deposit Library. Officers located the subject and the bicycle several blocks away. The subject was taken into custody for the Theft and transported to Central Booking. Prior to being transported, the officers discovered the subject had three outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrants. Recovered value: $1,350.00. Occurred on: 6-02-13, at 9:43 PM. 1800 BLOCK RED RIVER Theft: The UT Police Department received information a non-UT subject had removed a mountain bicycle from the bike racks located on the west side of CDL. During the investigation, the officers located the subject attempting to fix the chain that had derailed. The subject informed the officers he was trying to fix his bike so he could be on his way. The subject was surprised when he was arrested for being in possession of a bicycle belonging to the UT Police Department. The subject was transported to Central Booking. Recovered value: $1,350.00. Occurred on: 6-02-13, at 3:35 AM. 2400 BLOCK RED RIVER Assist Outside Agency: A UT Police Officer observed a non-UT subject stumbling into the roadway. During the investigation, the officer soon learned the subject had two outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrants for various traffic offenses. Subject was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 6-02-13, at 2:25 AM. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 64 Alarm Reports, 1 Suspicious Person Report, 7 Burned Out Light Reports, and 2 Unsecured Door Reports between 5/31/13 and 6/03/13. SURE Walk is a student-run volunteer group that provides walks to and from campus to UT students, faculty, and staff, with the help of student volunteers. Volunteers are gathered from trusted organizations from around campus, such as Orange Jackets and APO, and include both males and females. An agency of Student Government, SURE Walk is in service Monday through Thursday from 10 p.m. – 2 a.m. during the fall and spring semesters. Please report your missing property to UTPD Lost and Found at http://www.utexas.edu/police/lostandfound. Or call 512-232-9619 and describe your item to us. If we have your item, we’ll contact you as quickly as possible to arrange its return to you. UTPD handles over 5000 lost and found items each year from campus departments, although we cannot accept clothing, food or drink containers, toiletries, broken or soiled property. Campus departments are encouraged to call 471-4441 to have UTPD pick up lost and found items that are unclaimed after one week. Emergency Text Message Service The University of Texas at Austin and its police department are responsible for notifying faculty, staff, and students of emergency situations (e.g., inclement weather, building evacuations, campus closures, etc.). The University employs a wide variety of tools to make sure everyone on campus is informed during an emergency event—including text messaging. In order to accomplish emergency text messaging more effectively, the University is collecting cell phone numbers from members of our campus community. Effective August 26, 2009, this database of cell phone numbers will be used for emergency text messages. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license. BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community.
