Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Friday, 06-07-13 and Monday, 06-10-13. JESTER EAST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A black Samsung cellular telephone was reported stolen after being left unattended and unsecured inside the dormitory. Loss value: $200.00. Occurred on: 6-06-13, between 8:00 AM and 8:30 AM.(lw) JESTER EAST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A UT student reported a red and blue tandem bicycle had been stolen from an unsecured 1st floor dormitory room. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred on: 6-05-13, between 5:30 AM and 3:30 PM. 1600 BLOCK GUADALUPE Theft: The UT Police Department received information a non-UT subject had removed a mountain bicycle from the bike racks located on the north side of the UTA Building. During the investigation, the officers located the suspect and the bicycle several blocks away. The suspect was taken into custody for the Theft and transported to Central Booking. Recovered value: $1,350.00. Occurred on: 6-07-13, at 6:25 PM. 2000 BLOCK GUADALUPE Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was discovered passed out along the sidewalk. The officers detected a strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and noted other signs of intoxication including slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 6-10-13, at 12:11 AM. 2100 BLOCK GUADALUPE Public Intoxication / Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was discovered passed out on the sidewalk. The officer detected a strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and noted other signs of intoxication. The subject had a difficult time responding to the officers and answering their questions. The subject did inform the officers his friend had been arrested earlier and he no longer had a way home. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Prior to being transported, the officers learned the subject had an outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrant. Occurred on: 6-10-13, at 4:05 AM. 2500 BLCOK WHITIS AVE Theft / Criminal Trespass: A UT student discovered his Schwinn mountain bicycle had been stolen from the bike racks located on the east side of CMA. The student also observed a non-UT subject intently attempting to open a cable lock. During the investigation, the officers located the non-UT subject and discovered he had been issued a prior written Criminal Trespass Warning. The Criminal Trespass Warning was issued, incidentally after he had been arrested for a prior bike theft. The subject stated he could not unlock “his lock” since the lock was old. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and transported to Central Booking. As the investigation continued, the student discovered his bicycle had been moved to another location and his front and rear lights were missing. During a search of the suspect, the officers located the missing front and rear lights inside a backpack. Recovered value: $250.00. Occurred on: 6-09-13, at 4:30 PM. 2500 BLOCK WHITIS AVE Theft: The UT Police Department received information a non-UT subject had removed a mountain bicycle from the bike racks located on the east side of CMA. During the investigation, the officers located the subject at the same time the subject observed the officers. The subject hopped off the bicycle and disappeared behind the Austin Fire Department station. The officers searched the area with negative results. The officers were able to locate the stolen bicycle. The suspect was described as: Black male, late 40’s to early 50’s. Last seen wearing an orange cap and a long sleeve shirt. Recovered value: $1,350.00. Occurred on: 6-09-13, at 7:52 AM. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 50 Alarm Reports, 3 Suspicious Activity Report, 1 Suspicious Person report, 3 Burned Out Light Reports, between 6/07/13 and 6/10/13. SURE Walk is a student-run volunteer group that provides walks to and from campus to UT students, faculty, and staff, with the help of student volunteers. Volunteers are gathered from trusted organizations from around campus, such as Orange Jackets and APO, and include both males and females. An agency of Student Government, SURE Walk is in service Monday through Thursday from 10 p.m. – 2 a.m. during the fall and spring semesters. Please report your missing property to UTPD Lost and Found at http://www.utexas.edu/police/lostandfound. Or call 512-232-9619 and describe your item to us. If we have your item, we’ll contact you as quickly as possible to arrange its return to you. UTPD handles over 5000 lost and found items each year from campus departments, although we cannot accept clothing, food or drink containers, toiletries, broken or soiled property. Campus departments are encouraged to call 471-4441 to have UTPD pick up lost and found items that are unclaimed after one week. Emergency Text Message Service The University of Texas at Austin and its police department are responsible for notifying faculty, staff, and students of emergency situations (e.g., inclement weather, building evacuations, campus closures, etc.). The University employs a wide variety of tools to make sure everyone on campus is informed during an emergency event—including text messaging. In order to accomplish emergency text messaging more effectively, the University is collecting cell phone numbers from members of our campus community. Effective August 26, 2009, this database of cell phone numbers will be used for emergency text messages. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license.
