Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Thursday, 07/19/13 and Friday, 07/22/13. RAD CLASS IS AVAILABLE AUGUST 12TH-14TH, SIGN UP NOW STUDENT SERVICES BUILDING, 100 WEST DEAN KEETON STREET Criminal Trespass: A UT Police Officer witnessed a male subject sleeping on the third floor under a desk in the Student Services Building. The male subject must have fallen asleep while waiting for an Officer, because he stated “it took us long enough to find him.” The non-UT subject was not authorized to be in the building and was recognized by the Officer as a “frequent flyer” with UTPD. The male subject was arrested for Criminal Trespass and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 07/22/2013, at 4:30 AM. 2500 GUADALUPE STREET Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer observed a male subject passed out on a sidewalk in the 2500 Block of Guadalupe Street. The subject was checked out by EMS and the Austin Fire Department. It was determined that medical attention was not needed. The subject displayed bloodshot red, watery eyes and aggressive behavior. The subject was arrested for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 07/22/2013, at 1:07 AM. TOWNES HALL, 727 DEAN KEETON Theft: A male subject took a bicycle from the north bike racks at Townes Hall, without the consent of the owner. A UT Police Officer later stopped the subject in the 2500 Block of San Jacinto. The subject had in his possession pliers and wire cutters. The subject was arrested for Theft and transported to Central Booking. Recovered Value: $1,350.00 Occurred on: 07/21/2013, at 6:36 AM. 700 WEST 25TH STREET Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer observed a male subject display several clues of intoxication while attempting to walk down the street in the 700 Block of West 25th Street. While speaking with the subject, the UT Officer noticed a strong odor of alcohol emanating from the subject. The subject was arrested for Public Trespass and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 07/21/2013, at 5:56 AM. 1900 SAN JACINTO BLVD. Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer was approached by a male subject in 1900 Block of San Jacinto Blvd. While speaking with the Officer, the subject displayed several clues of intoxication. The subject was arrested for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 07/21/2013, at 3:02 AM. 800 EAST CLYDE LITTLEFIELD DRIVE Possession of Marijuana, Possession or Delivery of Drug Paraphernalia, Public intoxication: A non-UT female subject was observed stumbling on the north sidewalk of 800 East Clyde Littlefield Drive. The subject displayed several signs of intoxication. The subject was arrested for Public Intoxication. A search incidental to arrest revealed that the subject was also in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The UT Police Officer transported the subject to Central Booking. Occurred on: 07/21/2013, at 1:19 AM. O’HENRY HALL BUILDING, 702 COLORADO STREET Graffiti: UT Officers responded to O’Henry Hall on a report of a male subject writing in black pen on the southwest corner of the building. The subject was arrested for Graffiti and transported to Central Booking. Estimated Damage: $50.00 Occurred on: 07/20/2013, at 1:58 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: Graffiti on campus property is a Felony. A serious charge such as this carries serious fines, expensive lawyer fees and may cost you future employment opportunities. SERVICE BUILDING, 304 EAST 24TH STREET Theft: A UT Police Officer responded to the Service Building on a report of a stolen hacksaw that was left unattended near the service elevator. Loss Value: $150.00 Occurred on: 07/19/2013, at 2:45PM. SAN JACINTO GARAGE, 2401 SAN JACINTO BLVD Criminal Mischief: A female subject noticed her rear window had been busted out on the second level of the San Jacinto garage. Estimated Damage: $400.00 Occurred on: 07/19/2013, at 8:00 AM. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 44 Alarm Reports, 2 Burned Out Light Reports, 2 Unsecured Door Reports, 1 Criminal Mischief Report, 1 Water Leak Report, and 1 Elevator Assist Report between 07/19/13 and 07/22/13. Registering your property is very helpful in theft investigations and in returning lost property to its rightful owner. SURE Walk is a student-run volunteer group that provides walks to and from campus to UT students, faculty, and staff, with the help of student volunteers. Volunteers are gathered from trusted organizations from around campus, such as Orange Jackets and APO, and include both males and females. An agency of Student Government, SURE Walk is in service Monday through Thursday from 10 p.m. – 2 a.m. during the fall and spring semesters. To order a walk, call (512) 232-9255 or email orderasurewalk@gmail.com, and two volunteers, one male and one female, will meet you at your current location and walk you to your destination, whether it be on campus or in the greater campus neighborhoods. Please report your missing property to UTPD Lost and Found at http://www.utexas.edu/police/lostandfound. Or call 512-232-9619 and describe your item to us. If we have your item, we’ll contact you as quickly as possible to arrange its return to you. UTPD handles over 5000 lost and found items each year from campus departments, although we cannot accept clothing, food or drink containers, toiletries, broken or soiled property. Campus departments are encouraged to call 471-4441 to have UTPD pick up lost and found items that are unclaimed after one week. Emergency Text Message Service The University of Texas at Austin and its police department are responsible for notifying faculty, staff, and students of emergency situations (e.g., inclement weather, building evacuations, campus closures, etc.). The University employs a wide variety of tools to make sure everyone on campus is informed during an emergency event—including text messaging. In order to accomplish emergency text messaging more effectively, the University is collecting cell phone numbers from members of our campus community. Effective August 26, 2009, this database of cell phone numbers will be used for emergency text messages. Your cell phone number will not be used for. Campus Safety and Security at (512) 471-5767. Defensive Driving Learn Defensive Driving from a UTPD Police Officer. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license. For more information, to check for the next available class time or to register on-line go to: http://www.utexas.edu/police/services/defensive_driving.php RAD Program For Women, Now Available (Classes are FREE) The RAD program is a 12-hour course of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women that cover assault prevention and risk reduction while progressing on to basic hands-on defense training. http://www.utexas.edu/police/rad/ Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) The Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) is a partnership among the Office of the Dean of Students, Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and the University of Texas Police Department (UTPD). BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. By calling BCAL at 512-232-5050, callers may talk with trained staff members who will assist the caller in exploring available options and strategies as well as referrals to appropriate campus support networks.
