The vehicle was stopped in the 1800 block of Guadalupe and a strong odor of alcohol was coming from inside. The Non-UT subject denied consuming alcohol and stated he had “only been out to pick up friends at a bar called Haven.” The ever alert UT Police Officer later located a receipt and ticket for admission to the same establishment. After consenting to field sobriety tests, the subject was found to be intoxicated to the point where he was not able to safely operate a vehicle. The UT Police Officer arrested the subject for Driving While Intoxicated then provided a safe Haven in the rear of the patrol car while transporting him to Central Booking. The driver of the striking vehicle was still in the area contacting his insurance company about the collision. While speaking to the driver of the striking vehicle the UT Police Officer noticed a strong odor of alcohol and slurred speech. When asked if he had too many drinks to be driving, the subject replied, “It’s questionable.” After consenting to field sobriety testing, there was not a question that the subject was not able to safely operate a motor vehicle. The subject was arrested for Driving While intoxicated and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 09/20/13, at 3:13 AM. 15TH AND LAVACA STREET Driving While Intoxicated, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of a Controlled Substance: A four door Chevy Impala was seen traveling at a high rate of speed at 15th and Lavaca Street. Once stopped, the UT Police Officer smelled the odor of burnt marijuana and alcohol coming from the driver and the vehicle. The UT Student admitted to consuming a total of 4 alcoholic beverages before midnight at several bars. After consenting to field sobriety testing, it was determined the subject was intoxicated to a level in which he could not safely operate a motor vehicle. The subject was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and searched incidental to arrest.
