Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Friday, 10/11/13 and Tuesday, 10/15/13. -General Scam Alert- Recently there have been attempts to defraud individuals with different types of “SCAMS”. Be alert when dealing with emails and having telephone conversations with unknown entities. A good rule of thumb is if something sounds too good to be true then it is. 2500 GAUDALUPE STREET Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer observed a Non-UT subject stumbling alongside the roadway in the 2500 block of Guadalupe. Once stopped, the UT Police Officer observed that the subject had bloodshot glassy eyes and slurred speech. During his night of consuming at least 6 alcoholic beverages the subject stated that he lost his wallet with his driver’s license and cellphone. When given the chance to phone a sober friend, the subject was only able to remember his father’s phone number. The subject was released to his father without further incident. Occurred on: 10/13/13 2200 SAN JACINTO BLVD Public Intoxicated: A UT Police Officer observed a UT Student staggering in the 2300 block of San Jacinto. The subject staggered into the roadway and paused before finally crossing the street. The UT Police Officer observed that the subject was sweaty and had glassy watery eyes. After admitting to consuming alcohol on 6th Street, the subject made a failed attempt at guessing the day of the week, thinking it was Sunday or Monday. Wait for it…the subject was arrested on Saturday morning for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10/12/13, at 1:38 AM. 2200 ROBERT DEDMAN Driving While Intoxicated: A UT Police Officer observed a blue Dodge disregard a stop sign at 23rd street and San Jacinto. The vehicle accelerated up a hill to approximately 45 MPH before being stopped at 2200 Robert Dedman. The UT Police Officer observed a Non-UT female subject passed out in the front seat and a Non-UT male subject was driving. An odor of alcohol was coming from the vehicle and the driver had glassy bloodshot eyes. The driver admitted that he, “probably had too much to drink to be driving.” After consenting to field sobriety testing, the UT Police Officer confirmed the driver’s assessment and determined the driver definitely had too much to drink to be driving. The subject was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. The passenger was awakened, determined not to be a danger to herself, and called a taxi cab for a ride home. Occurred on: 10/12/13, at 4:19 AM.
