Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Friday, 11/15/13 and Tuesday, 11/19/13. UNION BUILDING, 2308 WHITIS AVENUE Criminal Trespass: A UT Student called 911 when she noticed that a Non-UT male subject was following her around campus. When UT Police Officers arrived on scene they quickly identified the male subject as a frequent flyer that has been dealt with on approximately 21 additional calls. The subject was arrested for Criminal Trespass and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11/18/13, at 10:50 AM. UNION BUILDING, 2308 WHITIS AVENUE Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer responded to the Union Building 2nd floor for a report of an intoxicated subject that was being aggressive towards others, placing them in fear. Once stopped, the subject stated that he consumed, “beer, pizza and some sake.” The subject smelled of alcohol and had his fists clenched in an aggressive manner, as if he wanted to “sake” the UT Police Officers. It was quickly determined that the subject was intoxicated to a point in which he was a danger to himself and/or others. The subject was arrested for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11/18/13, at 4:06 PM. BRACKENRIDGE FIELD LABORATORY, 2907 LAKE AUSTIN BLVD Graffiti: A UT Staff member reported markings made in red spray paint on a bridge located about 20 yards east of the Brackenridge apartment exit. Estimated Removal Cost: $150.00 Occurred on: 11/18/13, at 4:01 PM. INTRAMURAL FIELDS, 4901 GUADALUPE STREET Burglary of Building: A UT Staff member reported damage to a door: the locking mechanism was removed from an archery field shed at the Intramural Fields. Estimated Loss Value: $150.00 Occurred on: 11/18/13, at 4:57 PM. 300 EAST 21ST STREET Driving While Intoxicated: A red Volkswagen was observed traveling at a high rate of speed prior to disregarding a stop sign at the 2300 block of San Jacinto Blvd. Once stopped, the driver had an odor of alcohol coming from her and stated that she had one pineapple and vodka drink at the W Hotel. After consenting to field sobriety testing, the driver was found to be intoxicated to a point in which it was not safe to operate a paper umbrella much less a motor vehicle. The subject was arrested for Driving While Intoxicate and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11/18/13, at 3:49 AM. CLARK FIELD, 300 EAST 21ST STREET Theft: A UT Student reported his bag containing, a black Polo wallet, red iPod Nano, white Galaxy S4 phone, and grey Otter box case, as stolen from the Clark Field bleacher area. Estimated Loss Value: $481.00 Occurred on: 11/17/13, at 7:35 PM. INTRAMURAL FIELDS, 4901 GUADALUPE STREET Burglary of Vehicle, Credit Card Fraud: A UT Student reported the driver side front window broken out of her blue Honda CRV, located in the west lot of the Intramural Fields. The UT Student reported a beige leather purse, Vera Bradley change purse, various cards, and $15 cash taken without her effective consent. One of the subject’s credit cards was used without her effective consent prior to cancellation. Estimated Loss and Damage Value: $300.00 Occurred on: 11/17/13, at 2:55 PM. GATEWAY APARTMENTS, 1618 WEST 6TH STREET Graffiti: A UT Police Officer observed writing in black spray paint located on a bus stop wall located at the entrance to the Gateway Apartments. Estimated Removal Cost: $150.00 Occurred on: 11/17/13, at 9:52 AM. 200 WEST 7TH STREET Public Intoxication: An alert UT Guard stopped an intoxicated Non-UT subject from urinating on UT property downtown at 6th and Colorado. The same subject was later observed climbing out of a construction area before promptly falling into another construction barrier. The subject had difficulty constructing complete sentences and difficulty balancing when standing. The subject’s sober sister arrived on scene and took responsibility for intoxicated brother. Occurred on: 11/17/13, at 2:51 AM. 1800 COMAL STREET Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor: A Lincoln Town car was observed traveling east at the intersection of Martin Luther King Blvd and Trinity Street without headlights on when required. Once stopped, a strong odor of alcohol was emanating from the interior of the vehicle and the driver had red bloodshot eyes. The subject was found to be under the legal drinking age of 21 through his state issued driver’s license. The subject was issued a citation for Driving Under the Influence by a Minor, was released from the scene, and the vehicle was towed from the scene. Occurred on: 11/17/13, at 1:58 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 EAST 21ST STREET Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer observed a male UT Student carrying a female UT Student to the Jester West Dormitory lobby area. Once inside, the female subject was placed on her feet and displayed difficulty standing. The subject also had difficulty attempting to swipe her card at the card reader to access the dormitory. After further evaluation from EMS, a sober friend arrived on scene and took responsibility for the intoxicated party. The subject was released to her sober friend and a summons for Public Intoxication will be issued at a later date. The report of this incident will be forwarded to the Dean of Students Office for further action to be taken. The male subject was released from the scene without further incident. Occurred on: 11/17/13, at 1:13 AM. PERRY CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 EAST 21ST STREET Theft: A UT Student reported her KLN brand bicycle as stolen from the bicycle racks at the Perry Castaneda Library. Estimated Loss Value: $110.00 Occurred on: 11/16/13, at 8:54 PM. DURING THE UT FOOTBALL GAME THERE WERE SEVERAL ALCOHOL RELATED VIOLATIONS IN AND AROUND DKR STADIUM. BELOW ARE SOME OF THE SITUATIONS WE ENCOUNTERED; -Prepared twice as much for the UT football game, a subject was found double booted when an alert Officer located two flasks, one in each boot, as he attempted to enter the stadium. -A Non-Mathematics major did not properly calculate the needed depth to conceal his tall boy can of beer in his rear pant pocket while attempting to enter the game. -A subject was found in possession of a vodka and tea mixed drink at the game. The subject got mixed up when he attempted to conceal the brown colored drink in a CLEAR water bottle. -A subject was found sleeping at a bus stop attempted to use several credit cards as his identification. Rather than accepting the charge card, the UT Police Officer charged the subject with Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. MOORE HILL DORMITORY, 214 EAST 21ST STREET Theft: A UT Student reported having a letter, possibly containing $20 cash, as stolen from the lobby area at Moore Hill Dormitory. Estimated Loss Value: $20.00 Occurred on: 11/16/13, at 12:01 PM. MOORE HILL DORMITORY, 214 EAST 21ST STREET Theft: A UT Student reported having 3 letters, containing $20 cash each, as stolen from the lobby area of Moore Hill Dormitory. Estimated Loss Value: $60.00 Occurred on: 11/16/13, at 11:16 AM. PAINTER HALL, 103 WEST 24TH STREET Theft: A UT Student reported having her iPad Mini and green case stolen from the 3rd floor of Painter Hall. Estimated Loss Value: $250.00 Occurred on: 11/15/13, at 11:39 PM. SURE Walk is a student-run volunteer group that provides walks to and from campus to UT students, faculty, and staff, with the help of student volunteers. Volunteers are gathered from trusted organizations from around campus, such as Orange Jackets and APO, and include both males and females. An agency of Student Government, SURE Walk is in service Monday through Thursday from 10 p.m. – 2 a.m. during the fall and spring semesters. If we have your item, we’ll contact you as quickly as possible to arrange its return to you. UTPD handles over 5000 lost and found items each year from campus departments, although we cannot accept clothing, food or drink containers, toiletries, broken or soiled property. Campus departments are encouraged to call 471-4441 to have UTPD pick up lost and found items that are unclaimed after one week. Emergency Text Message Service The University of Texas at Austin and its police department are responsible for notifying faculty, staff, and students of emergency situations (e.g., inclement weather, building evacuations, campus closures, etc.). The University employs a wide variety of tools to make sure everyone on campus is informed during an emergency event—including text messaging. In order to accomplish emergency text messaging more effectively, the University is collecting cell phone numbers from members of our campus community. Effective August 26, 2009, this database of cell phone numbers will be used for emergency text messages. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license. BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community.
