HERE ARE A FEW SAFETY TIPS YOU MAY INCORPORATE INTO YOUR SCHEDULES; HOME PREPERATION: -CHECK OUT LIGHT TIMERS TO ACTIVATE LIGHTS…GIVES THE APPEARANCE SOMEONE IS HOME -GET A TRUSTWORTHY NEIGHBOR TO COLLECT YOUR MAIL -MAKE FRIENDS AND FAMILY AWARE OF YOUR EXPECTED ARRIVAL TIMES VEHICLE ACCIDENTS & ROADSIDE SERVICE: -GET VEHICLE TUNE-UPS -KNOW YOUR ROUTE OF TRAVEL AND LET SOMEONE KNOW WHEN TO EXPECT YOU -IF THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEABLE FOLLOWING A COLLISION, PULL OVER AT A SAFE WELL LIT LOCATION, AND CALL FOR ASSISTANCE -IF THE VEHICLE IS NOT DRIVEABLE, LOCK ALL DOORS, ROLL UP WINDOWS, AND CALL THE POLICE -TEXAS ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE NUMBER, 1-800-525-5555, IS LOCATED ON THE BACK OF YOUR TXDL - PLAN RESTROOM STOPS AND BREAKES ALONG THE WAY AT A SAFE FAMILIAR LOCATION -CHECK IN PERIODICALLY WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO UPDATE TRAVEL INFORMATION ATTACHED IS A REMINDER FROM THE TRAVIS COUNTY ATTORNEY’S UNDERAGE DRINKING TASK FORCE, REGARDING DRINKING AND DRIVING, THIS HOLIDAY SEASON. 2400 NUECES STREET Public Intoxication, Fictitious License: A Non-UT male subject was observed passed out on the sidewalk with his feet partially in the roadway, in the 2400 block of Nueces Street. A UT Police Officer performed a welfare check and woke the subject. Once awake, the UT Police Officer noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from the subject. The subject stated he had 5 mixed drinks, then 5 or 6 mixed drinks, before finally settling on 6 mixed drinks. The subject was found to be in possession of a fictitious paper driver’s license while he was being identified. The subject stated he was rich, from Alabama and could buy Texas’ cheap jails. The subject was arrested for Public Intoxication; Possession of a Fictitious Driver’s License and was transported to Central Booking….roll tide. Occurred on: 11/26/13, at 3:38 AM. GRADUATE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS, 100 EAST 21ST STREET Credit Card Abuse, Theft: A UT Student reported having her pink Tory Burch wallet containing various cards as stolen from her unattended backpack in the 3rd floor Graduate School of Business women’s restroom. One of the credit cards was used to make purchases of about $1000, prior to cancellation. Estimated Loss Value: $355.00 Occurred on: 11/25/13, at 5:47 PM. CALHOUN HALL, 204 WEST 21ST STREET Public Lewdness: A UT Student reported seeing a black male exposing himself and committing a lewd act on the second floor of Calhoun Hall. The subject was described as a black male, dark complexion, husky build, wearing a black wind breaker with a hood and dark pants. The UT Student contacted UTPD and the subject left prior to arrival. Occurred on: 11/25/13, at 5:50 PM. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 22 Alarm Reports, 2 Suspicious Activities Reports, 3 Unsecured Door Reports, 1 Lost/Found Report, 1 Lighting Problem Report, 1 Elevator Call Report, 1 Key Assist Report, 2 Accidental Damage Reports, 1 False 911 Report and 1 Welfare Concern Report between 11/25/13 and 11/26/13. Registering your property is very helpful in theft investigations and in returning lost property to its rightful owner. Without identifying information, recovering stolen property is virtually impossible. SURE Walk is a student-run volunteer group that provides walks to and from campus to UT students, faculty, and staff, with the help of student volunteers. Volunteers are gathered from trusted organizations from around campus, such as Orange Jackets and APO, and include both males and females. An agency of Student Government, SURE Walk is in service Monday through Thursday from 10 p.m. – 2 a.m. during the fall and spring semesters. To order a walk, call (512) 232-9255 or email orderasurewalk@gmail.com, and two volunteers, one male and one female, will meet you at your current location and walk you to your destination, whether it be on campus or in the greater campus neighborhoods. Please report your missing property to UTPD Lost and Found at http://www.utexas.edu/police/lostandfound. Or call 512-232-9619 and describe your item to us. If we have your item, we’ll contact you as quickly as possible to arrange its return to you. UTPD handles over 5000 lost and found items each year from campus departments, although we cannot accept clothing, food or drink containers, toiletries, broken or soiled property. Campus departments are encouraged to call 471-4441 to have UTPD pick up lost and found items that are unclaimed after one week. Emergency Text Message Service The University of Texas at Austin and its police department are responsible for notifying faculty, staff, and students of emergency situations (e.g., inclement weather, building evacuations, campus closures, etc.). The University employs a wide variety of tools to make sure everyone on campus is informed during an emergency event—including text messaging. In order to accomplish emergency text messaging more effectively, the University is collecting cell phone numbers from members of our campus community. Effective August 26, 2009, this database of cell phone numbers will be used for emergency text messages. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license. BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. By calling BCAL at 512-232-5050, callers may talk with trained staff members who will assist the caller in exploring available options and strategies as well as referrals to appropriate campus support networks.
