The vehicle’s ignition was on and an unconscious male was in the driver’s seat. All of the windows were rolled up, loud music playing (quite possibly the band Asleep at the Wheel), and the car was in neutral. An alert UT Police Officer placed a wheel block under the vehicle’s tire to prevent it from rolling. After a couple minutes, the driver responded to the UT Police Officer’s request to wake up and exit the vehicle. The driver displayed multiple signs of intoxication but stated that he had not consumed alcohol. Following the subject’s very believable statement, his wooden nose began to grow, and the UT Police Officers found a nearly empty glass bottle of beer in the vehicle console area. The subject consented to field sobriety testing and he was found to be intoxicated to a point in which it was not safe to operate a motor vehicle. The subject was arrested for Driving While Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11/27/13, at 2:15 AM. 100 WEST MARTIN LUTHER KING STREET Public Intoxication: A UT Student was seen walking in the roadway at the intersection of Martin Luther King Blvd and Lavaca. The subject was waving his arms in the air, possibly attempting to fly, before walking to the sidewalk and leaning against a wall. A UT Police Officer performed a welfare check and immediately noticed a strong odor of alcohol emanating from the subject. After failed attempts to contact a sober friend, the subject was arrested for Public Intoxication which landed him in jail at Central Booking. Occurred on: 11/27/13, at 1:43 AM. CLARK FIELD, 300 EAST 21ST STREET Theft: A UT Student reported his LG Optimus L9 cell phone and wallet containing various cards stolen from Clark Field. Estimated Loss Value: $185.00 Occurred on: 11/26/13, at 9:40 AM. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 19 Alarm Reports between 11/26/13 and 11/27/13. The University employs a wide variety of tools to make sure everyone on campus is informed during an emergency event—including text messaging. In order to accomplish emergency text messaging more effectively, the University is collecting cell phone numbers from members of our campus community. Effective August 26, 2009, this database of cell phone numbers will be used for emergency text messages.
