Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University Police Department Patrol Officers between Wednesday, 01/27/16 and Thursday, 01/28/16. BELO CENTER OF NEW MEDIA, 300 West Dean Keeton Graffiti: A white marker was used to write a word on the west exterior wall of the building. Removal cost: $50.00. Reported on 01/27/16 at 8:59 a.m. CREEKSIDE RESIDENCE HALL, 2501 San Jacinto Theft: A grey and blue Trek 300 bicycle was stolen while it was secured with a u-lock and a cable lock to the bicycle racks located on the west side of the residence hall. Loss value: $125.00. Occurred between 01/23/16 at 12:30 p.m. and 01/26/16 at 12:30 p.m. JESTER EAST, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A red Schwinn road bike was stolen while it was secured with a u-lock to the bicycle racks located near the residence hall. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred between 01/26/16 at 8:30 a.m. and 01/27/16 at 8:30 a.m. PARKING LOT 35, 2200 Comal Driving While Intoxicated: A non-UT subject was reported as digging in the back seat of a vehicle in the parking lot. The responding officer observed the subject in the driver's seat of the vehicle. The subject began to back out of the parking space. Upon the approach of the patrol car, the subject pulled back into the parking space. The subject smelled of ETOH and refused to answer questions verbally. The subject was confused by the officer's request to present a driver's license and was unable to do so. As the subject stepped out of the vehicle he did provide auditory clues by excitedly exclaiming, “Yes, I have been drinking.” The officer agreed with the subject's self-assessment. Occurred on 01/27/16 at 11:50 p.m. 2300 Guadalupe Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A non-UT subject was observed passed out in a semi-liquid pool of partially digested stomach contents. During the interview, a used hypodermic needle fell out of the subject's sweatpants leg. The subject admitted he had used the needle to inject drugs prior to the officer stopping him. Occurred on 01/27/16 at 4:05 p.m. 2300 Guadalupe Disorderly Conduct (Offensive Gesture): A non-UT subject was observed standing in-front of a store window with his hand placed down the front of his sweatpants. The subject's repetitive hand motion startled staff members who were working inside the closed store. During the investigation, a store manager from a second store approached and complained the subject had recently been inside his store and was acting in a similar manner. Occurred on 01/27/16 at 9:27 p.m. 8700 Research Driving While Intoxicated / Driving While License Invalid / Possession of Marijuana: A UT police officer observed a vehicle abruptly pull to the side of the road. Upon checking the vehicle, the non-UT driver stated he needed a tow truck due to flat tire caused by a tree limb. The officer checked the vehicle and discovered minor front end damage and a tree limb wedge between the front tires. Based on the collision, the driver's staggering, slurred speech and odor of alcohol, the officer conducted field sobriety testing and determined the driver was driving while intoxicated. A check on the subject's driver's license showed it was suspended at the time the subject was driving. A wooden box containing a small pipe and .015 ounces of marijuana was found inside the vehicle. The struck tree was not located. Occurred on 01/28/16 at 2:25 a.m. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 22 Alarm Reports, 1 “Police Help” Callbox Activation, 13 Traffic Violations, 1 Motor Vehicle Collision, 4 Suspicious Activity Reports, 2 Medical Emergency Assist Requests, 1 Found Property Report, and 11 Public Assist Requests between 01/27/16 and 01/28/16.
