Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University Police Department Patrol Officers between Friday, 01/29/16 and Monday, 02/01/16. ****Notice from the Austin Police Department**** A district representative for the Austin Police Department Baker District reached out to the UT Police Department and asked us to assist in alerting the student body about a parking concern in the Eastwood Neighborhood (just north of Dean Keeton Street). Due to complaints of illegally parked vehicles, the Austin Police Department will be checking the Eastwood Neighborhood for illegally parked vehicles and issuing citations. If you have been parking illegally in this neighborhood and do not want a parking citation, either park legally or park somewhere else. ASHBEL SMITH HALL, 201 West 7th Street Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was reported as being passed out near the intersection of 7th Street and Lavaca. The subject was located and found to have difficulty staying awake, standing or walking. The subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point Austin-Travis County EMS needed to transport the subject to a local hospital for the treatment of alcohol poisoning. Occurred on 01/29/16 at 2:56 p.m. BELO CENTER FOR NEW MEDIA, 300 West Dean Keeton Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was found sleeping on a set of exterior steps located on the south side of the building. The subject was found to have previously been issued a written criminal trespass warning and was taken into custody. Occurred on 02/01/16 at 5:49 a.m. DENTON COOLEY PAVILLION, 1701 Red River Theft: 15 white t-shirts and a burnt orange fleece blanket were stolen from an unsecured 1st floor room during a special event. The t-shirts and blanket were to be given away during the event. Loss value: $255.00. Occurred on 12/15/15 between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Reported on 01/29/16 at 12:59 p.m. GARRISON HALL, 128 Inner Campus Drive Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT police officer observed a UT student helping another UT student walk. The student needing help was found to be under the age of 21 and needed help due to his high level of alcohol intake. The student in need of help was issued a citation for the consumption of alcohol by a minor. His sober friend agreed to continue to care for him. Occurred on 01/30/16 at 1:50 a.m. JESTER EAST, 201 East 21st Street Public Intoxication: A UT student, who was under the age of 21, was reported as being passed out near the main entrance to the residence hall. Austin-Travis County EMS arrived and concluded the student was indeed intoxicated but advised he could be turned over to a sober friend who was standing by the area. Occurred on 01/31/16 at 5:08 a.m. SAN ANTONIO GARAGE, 2420 San Antonio Duty Upon Striking a Fixed Object: A UT police officer found the southwest entry control arm broken free from the control gate and lying in the roadway. Repair cost: $50.00. Discovered on 01/31/16 at 2:29 a.m. 300 East 21st Street Graffiti: Black spray paint was used to write an illegible word on a cement bridge post and on a cement wall. Removal cost: $100.00. Discovered on 01/30/16 at 2:40 a.m. 2300 Guadalupe Possession of Dangerous Drug: A non-UT subject was observed putting a green leafy substance into a hand rolled cigar. The subject stated he was making a cigar with the synthetic cannabinoid commonly referred to as “K2.” The cigar was found to contain .377 grams of “K2.” Occurred on 01/30/16 at 4:38 a.m. 2300 Guadalupe Possession of Dangerous Drug: A group of non-UT subjects were seen loitering around a backpack that was left on the ground. A police officer approached the group and asked if anyone owned the backpack. The entire group denied ownership of the backpack. The officer conducted an inventory of the backpack and discovered a package containing 5.4 grams of the synthetic cannabinoid commonly referred to as “K2.” After the discovery of the “K2,” one of the subjects stepped forward and claimed ownership of the backpack. Hello - that is one of many reasons you shouldn't smoke that stuff – it makes you not so bright. Occurred on 01/30/16 at 6:37 p.m. 2300 Guadalupe Delivery of Dangerous Drug / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia / Possession of Marijuana: Acting on information from people who had previously been handled for the possession of dangerous drugs, police officers engaged in a static patrol of the area. It did not take long for the officers to observe one non-UT subject approach another non-UT subject. Both subjects looked suspiciously around before one pulled cash form his pocket and handed it to the other subject. The other subject then produced a pink and green packet of hand rolled cigars and handed it to the first subject. The two were detained and the cigars in the packet were found to contain 5.2 grams of the synthetic cannabinoid commonly referred to as “K2.” The “seller” was then found to be in possession of bags containing residue of “K2,” a bag with a total of 21.4 grams of “K2,” and $976 in cash. Occurred on 01/28/16 at 8:20 p.m. 2300 Guadalupe Assist Outside Agency: An Austin police officer flagged down a UT police officer and asked the UT officer if he had seen a specific individual. When the UT officer stated he had just seen the individual, the Austin police officer told the UT police officer the subject was a suspect in a recent criminal mischief case and had an active warrant. The Austin police officer then responded to another call. The UT police officer located the non-UT subject and confirmed the subject did indeed have an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant for theft. Occurred on 01/30/16 at 5:22 p.m. 1800 Lavaca Possession of Marijuana: A non-UT subject was stopped for failing to come to a complete stop at a red light intersection before making a right hand turn. The non-UT owner of the vehicle was a passenger inside the vehicle. Based on the officer's olfactory detection of marijuana, a search was conducted that revealed .82 ounces of marijuana inside the vehicle. Occurred on 01/31/16 at 2:35 a.m. 1900 Robert Dedman Burglary of Motor Vehicle: An unknown tool was used to break a lock to a truck bed cover. Entry was made into the truck bed. A total of 29 individual tools were stolen from the bed of the truck. Repair cost: $150.00. Loss value: $3,751.00. Occurred on 01/29/16 between 11:00 a.m. and 12 noon. 2200 Speedway Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was reported as being passed out on a picnic table beside the roadway. When awakened, it was learned the subject was intoxicated to the point he was a danger to himself. In lieu of arrest, the subject was turned over to a sober, responsible friend who was summoned to the scene. Occurred on 01/31/16 at 3:01 a.m. 2600 Whitis Public Intoxication: A UT student, who was under the age of 21, was reported as being passed out in the back seat of a ride-for-hire vehicle. The driver stated friends of the student arraigned the ride and helped her into the vehicle. The driver stated the student passed out during the drive. The student was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point Austin-Travis County EMS needed to transport her to a local hospital for the treatment of alcohol poisoning. Occurred on 01/31/16 at 2:48 a.m. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 74 Alarm Reports, 1 Fire Alarm Activation, 1 “Police Help” Callbox Activation, 28 Traffic Violations, 1 Motor Vehicle Collision, 18 Suspicious Activity Reports, 7 Medical Emergency Assist Requests, 1 Found Property Report, 1 Unsecured Door Report, 3 Welfare Concern Reports, 3 Stuck Elevator Reports, 3 Suspicious Odor Reports, and 9 Public Assist Requests between 01/29/16 and 02/01/16.
