Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University Police Department Patrol Officers between Wednesday, 02/03/16 and Thursday, 02/04/16. ****Scam Alert**** With a new school semester comes an old scam. Apparently, the scam artists are back at it. The UT Police Department has heard from more students about the IRS scam. In this scam, the scammer locates student information in the on-line directory. The scammer then clones a law enforcement telephone number, calls the student and pretends to be a law enforcement officer. The scammer then tells the student there is a warrant for their arrest due to back taxes or unpaid “student taxes.†The scammer then directs the student to purchase a prepaid credit card. The scammer then directs the student to provide the credit card information. To prevent receiving these phone calls, restrict your information in the UT directory. If you would like to restrict your information, visit: http://registrar.utexas.edu/students/records/restrictmyinfo ELECTRICAL MECHANICAL ENGINEERING, 10500 Exploration Way Theft: $4.00 in U.S. quarters was stolen from an unsecured desk drawer located inside a 1st floor office. The victim advised this was the second time change had been stolen from the same desk drawer. Occurred between 02/02/16 at approximately 1:00 p.m. and 02/03/16 at 8:00 a.m. HOMER RAINEY HALL, 200 West 21st Street Criminal Mischief: A glass window was broken out of an exterior door located in an enclosed walkway on the east side of the building. Entry into the building was not gained through the walkway. Repair cost: $100.00. Occurred on 02/04/16 between 12 midnight and 1:30 a.m. 2300 Guadalupe Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A UT police officer was flagged down by a citizen who reported a non-UT subject had just asked her if she wanted to “smoke meth.†The reporting party provided a description of the subject. The officer located the subject near-by and asked her if she had anything on her he needed to know about. The subject admitted to possessing a “meth pipe†and produced a glass pipe with burned crystalline methamphetamine. Occurred on 02/03/16 at 1:21 p.m. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 17 Alarm Reports, 13 Traffic Violations, 1 Motor Vehicle Collision, 5 Suspicious Activity Reports, 1 Medical Emergency Assist Request, 2 Unsecured Door Report, 2 Welfare Concern Reports, and 1 Public Assist Request between 02/03/16 and 02/04/16.
