Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University Police Department Patrol Officers between Monday, 02/08/16 and Tuesday, 02/09/16. DELL PEDIATRIC INSTITUTE, 1400 Barbara Jordan Blvd Criminal Mischief: A UT staff member reported that several skateboarders in the area had damaged a UT sign while doing tricks. The staff members told the skateboarders to leave before contacting officers. Estimated damage: $2000. Occurred on 02/05/16 at 3:00PM. A Note about Skateboarding: While it is legal and permitted in the University rules to skateboard on campus, many times in the past skateboarders have used University property for something other than its intended purpose. This can cause damage (and in this case, a significant amount) to UT property which is a criminal offense. PERRY CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 E 21st St Criminal Trespass Warning: UT staff at this location reported the presence of a visitor in an area of the library that was designated for students only. The visitor responded with rude language, and so they contacted UTPD. Our officer responded and was met with more rude language from the unauthorized visitor. The officer responded in the form of a written Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on 02/08/16 at 3:45PM. PICKLE RESEARCH CAMPUS, 3220 Read Granberry Rd Theft: A UT staff member reported the theft of a wallet from an unattended purse. Estimated loss: $75. Occurred on 02/08/16 between 9:05AM and 4:19PM. HARRY RANSOM CENTER, 300 W 21st St Theft: A UT student reported the theft of their bicycle from the racks outside this location. The bicycle was secured with a cable lock to the rack. Neither the bicycle nor the cable lock could be found when the owner returned to retrieve the bicycle. Estimated loss: $100. Occurred between 02/06/16 at 6:00PM and 02/07/16 at 10:00PM. COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS, 305 E 23rd St Theft: A UT student reported the theft of a bicycle from the bicycle racks at this location. The bicycle was secured with a Kryptonite lock. Neither the bicycle, nor the lock could be located when the owner returned. Estimated loss: $700. Occurred on 02/08/16 between 4:30PM and 11:21PM. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 21 Alarm Reports, 3 Traffic Violations, 2 Motor Vehicle Collisions, 7 Suspicious Activity Reports, 2 Medical Emergency Assist Requests, and 4 Public Assist Requests between 02/08/16 and 02/09/16.
