Report for 02/24/2016

Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University Police Department Patrol Officers between Tuesday, 02/23/16 and Wednesday, 02/24/16. ****Rape Aggression Defense (RAD)**** The Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) System is a program of realistic, self-defense tactics and techniques. It is a comprehensive course for women that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defense training. RAD is not a martial arts program. Our courses are taught by certified RAD instructors and provide you with a workbook/reference manual. This manual outlines the entire physical defense program for reference and continuous personal growth. The RAD System of Physical Defense is currently being taught at many Colleges and Universities. The growing, widespread acceptance of this system is primarily due to the ease, simplicity and effectiveness of our tactics, solid research, and unique teaching methodology. The RAD Systems is dedicated to teaching women defensive concepts and techniques against various types of assault, by utilizing easy, effective and proven self-defense tactics. Our system of realistic defense will provide a woman with the knowledge to make an educated decision about resistance. The next RAD class is now open. Upon checking the welfare of the two subjects, the officer discovered the odor of burned marijuana. The investigation stemming from that odor led to the discovery of a hand rolled cigar containing a green leafy substance, a container with a small amount of the green leafy substance and several plastic baggies. The green leafy substance tested positive for .06 ounces of marijuana. The non-UT subject claimed ownership of the marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia. Occurred on 02/24/16 at 12:01 a.m. 2600 Speedway Public Intoxication: A UT student was observed leaning against a rock wall beside 27th Street. The student demonstrated his dependence on the wall for support. When asked where the student thought he was, he indicated he was 21 block south on 6th Street. The student was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was a danger to himself. The officers attempted to contact a friend of the student to claim responsibility for the student, but the student's phone battery died prior to the officer being able to tell a friend where they were located. The officer then introduced the student to friends at the central booking facility who would take care, custody and control of him. Occurred on 02/24/16 at 2:57 a.m. UNION BUILDING, 2308 Whitis Assist Outside Agency (2 counts): A UT staff member reported seeing two subjects in a second floor restaurant. The staff member believed one of the two subjects had previously received a written criminal trespass warning for the building. Officers responded and identified the two subjects. Neither subject had been issued a written criminal trespass warning but officers did learn a court judge had issued outstanding outside agency arrest warrants for both subjects. One of the two subjects had five arrest warrants for lying on a public sidewalk, solicitation in a roadway, following too closely (while driving a car – not a stalking type violation), no driver's license violation and failing to maintain financial responsibility. The other subject had two arrest warrants for possession of alcohol where prohibited and smoking in a prohibited location. Occurred on 02/23/16 at 2:17 p.m. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 27 Alarm Reports, 10 Traffic Violations, 1 Motor Vehicle Collision, 4 Suspicious Activity Reports, 1 Welfare Concern Report, 1 Stuck Elevator Report, and 2 Public Assist Request between 02/23/16 and 02/24/16.
