Report for 02/26/2016

Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University Police Department Patrol Officers between Thursday, 02/25/16 and Friday, 02/26/16. ****Rape Aggression Defense (RAD)**** The Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) System is a program of realistic, self-defense tactics and techniques. It is a comprehensive course for women that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defense training. RAD is not a martial arts program. Our courses are taught by certified RAD instructors and provide you with a workbook/reference manual. This manual outlines the entire physical defense program for reference and continuous personal growth. The RAD System of Physical Defense is currently being taught at many Colleges and Universities. The growing, widespread acceptance of this system is primarily due to the ease, simplicity and effectiveness of our tactics, solid research, and unique teaching methodology. The RAD Systems is dedicated to teaching women defensive concepts and techniques against various types of assault, by utilizing easy, effective and proven self-defense tactics. Our system of realistic defense will provide a woman with the knowledge to make an educated decision about resistance. The next RAD class is now open. Estimated loss: $500. Occurred on 02/25/16 between 3:00PM and 4:00PM. 2700 BLOCK OF SPEEDWAY ST Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor / Public Intoxication: A UTPD officer noticed a person who was having trouble remaining upright near this location. The officer stopped to check on this person and immediately noticed a strong smell of alcohol. Additionally, the person had a large wet stain on the front of their pants. When our officer drew attention to the stain, the subject denied that their pants were wet. The officer determined that it was not safe to let the subject leave on their own, and also discovered that they were not old enough to legally consume alcohol. The subject was issued a citation and released to a sober party that agreed to assume care, custody, and control of them. Occurred on 02/26/16 at 2:22AM. 300 BLOCK OF E DEAN KEETON ST Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UTPD officer noticed a subject watching her from the underside of the foot bridge at this location. When she turned toward the person, they ducked behind the bridge. As she continued to watch that location, the subject peeked out from beneath the bridge then hid again when they saw the officer looking at them. Our officer elected not to play peek-a-boo with the person and went under the bridge to look for them. When the person saw the officer, they grabbed a bicycle from a nearby rack and attempted to ride it away. Unfortunately, the bicycle was inoperable due to a chain and the person stopped after the officer commanded them to several times. Shockingly, the officer discovered that the subject had been drinking and was under the legal age. She issued him a citation and seized the bicycle until the rightful owner could be located. Occurred on 02/26/16 at 3:14AM. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 20 Alarm Reports, 10 Traffic Violations, 1 Motor Vehicle Collision, 9 Suspicious Activity Reports, 2 Medical Assist Requests, 3 Assist Other Law Enforcement Agency Requests, and 3 Public Assist Requests between 02/25/16 and 02/26/16.
