Report for 03/02/2016

Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University Police Department Patrol Officers between Tuesday, 03/01/16 and Wednesday, 03/02/16. ***SCAM ALERT*** UTPD received a number of calls yesterday regarding phone calls that students received. The caller told those students that UTPD had a warrant for their arrest and demanded payment over the phone. These types of scams are not new, however in some instances the caller successfully “spoofed” a UTPD administrative phone number. UTPD will never contact you by phone to notify you of a warrant and will never ask for payment over the phone. If you receive a suspicious phone call similar to this, ask for a case number and contact UTPD directly. 1900 BLOCK OF NUECES ST Public Intoxication/Failure to Appear: A UTPD officer was speaking to a local business owner near this location when the officer noticed a subject lying face down on the sidewalk and not moving. The officer was concerned because most people might be unable to sleep in that position, so he decided to try and wake the person. Once the subject was awake, officers discovered that he had two warrants for his arrest. Occurred on 03/01/16 at 9:42 a.m. 2200 BLOCK OF GUADALUPE ST Public Intoxication/Possession of a Controlled Substance: Austin Police Department contacted our department for aid in a case at this location. APD had a subject under arrest and found what they suspected to be a synthetic cannabinoid on the subject's person. UTPD officers took over the case at that point due to their expertise in this area and found probable cause to arrest. Occurred on 03/01/16 at 1:23 p.m. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 20 Alarm Reports, 1 Fire Alarm Activation, 25 Traffic Violations, 6 Suspicious Activity Reports, 1 Medical Assist Request, 3 Assist Other Law Enforcement Agency Requests, 1 Found Property Reports, 2 Motor Vehicle Collisions, and 2 Public Assist Requests between 03/01/16 and 03/02/16.
