Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University Police Department Patrol Officers between Friday, 03/11/16 and Monday, 03/14/16. ****Training Available**** With our students off enjoying their break, we would like to offer up a few training opportunities for our faculty and staff. I have several open days and time slots this week for presenting some of our staff based training sessions. We offer a variety of training presentations that include topics like office safety and security or civilian responses to an active shooter situation. BURDINE HALL, 2502 University Theft: An Apple iPhone 5s was stolen after it was left on a 2nd floor hallway bench. Loss value: $250.00. Occurred on 03/03/16 between 12 noon and 2:00 p.m. Reported on 03/12/16 at 2:20 p.m. CLARK FIELD, 307 East 21st Street Possession of Dangerous Drug / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia / Criminal Trespass Warning: UT police officers responded to the area to investigate a report of a subject who was asking to “buy drugs”. An officer located a subject matching the description on 21st Street. The subject was holding a bag of mushrooms which he claimed he found on a nearby sidewalk. The subject stated his intention was to eat the mushrooms in the hope they would make him high. In addition to the .01 ounces of mushrooms, the subject was also found to be in the possession of a glass pipe containing burned marijuana. In addition to other law enforcement action taken, the subject was also issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 03/11/16 at 8:30 p.m. CONFERENCE CENTER PARKING GARAGE, 1900 University Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was reported as wandering through the parking garage and looking into parked vehicles. When the subject was located he stated he was looking for his personal property. The subject was escorted out of the parking garage and issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 03/13/16 at 1:36 p.m. GREGORY GYMNASIUM, 2101 Speedway Theft: A pair of orange and grey Asics shoes was stolen from a 1st floor men's locker room locker. The lock to the locker had not been locked when the owner left the locker the previous day. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred between 03/12/16 at 3:30 p.m. and 03/13/16 at 3:30 p.m. INTRAMURAL FIELDS, 4901 Guadalupe Burglary of Motor Vehicle / Credit Card Abuse: The left front window was broken out of a black Chevrolet Tahoe while the Tahoe was parked and unattended. A Tory Burch wallet containing three forms of identification, four credit cards and $20 in cash was stolen from the center console of the vehicle. Prior to the credit cards being cancelled, four unauthorized charges were made using the credit cards. Repair cost: $200.00. Loss value: $120.00. Occurred on 03/13/16 between 9:20 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. JESSE H. JONES COMMUNICATIONS COMPLEX, 2504-B Whitis Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was found loitering around the southeast side of the building when the building was closed to the public. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 03/12/16 at 2:02 a.m. JESTER ACADEMIC CENTER, 201 East 21st Street Graffiti: Black spray paint was used to write illegible letters and draw an image on a wall in a 1st floor stairwell. Removal cost; $100.00. Discovered on 03/13/16 at 8:15 a.m. ROBERT A. WELCH HALL, 105 East 24th Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was reported as sleeping on a sidewalk located on the southeast side of the building. The subject was awakened with the issuance of a written criminal trespass warning and sent on his way. Occurred on 03/11/16 at 8:55 a.m. 1900 Guadalupe Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was observed sitting in an alleyway in a manner that caused vehicles to be impeded. A UT police officer directed the subject to sit in a different manner or different location. A short time later, the officer observed the same subject sitting in the alley way causing passing vehicles to swerve to miss striking the subject. The officer identified the subject and discovered the subject had 8 outstanding outside agency arrest warrants for disorderly conduct (fighting in public), consuming alcohol where prohibited, 2 counts of camping in a public space, possession of drug paraphernalia, 2 counts of sitting or lying on a sidewalk, and pedestrian in the roadway. The officer assisted in finding the subject a place to sit at the local lock-up. Occurred on 3/13/16 at 9:45 p.m. 2400 Guadalupe Assist Outside Agency: A UT police officer observed a subject loitering in-front of a store that maintains a No Loitering Policy. When identified, it was discovered the subject had an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant for a pedestrian in the roadway violation. Occurred on 03/11/16 at 8:45 a.m. 300 West 24th Street Driving Under the Influence by a Minor / Driving while License Invalid / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia / Possession of Marijuana / Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject, who was under the age of 21, was stopped for running a red light while driving a gold colored Mercedes. The subject showed some signs of having consumed alcoholic beverages but was deemed to not have been driving while intoxicated. The driver was also found to be operating that Mercedes while his license was invalid. A red pipe with marijuana residue and a plastic bag containing .04 ounces of marijuana was also found inside the vehicle. The non-UT front seat passenger of the vehicle was also found to have two outstanding outside agency arrest warrants for possession of marijuana and for failure to appear in court for the possession of marijuana charge. Occurred on 03/11/16 at 11:37 p.m. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 56 Alarm Reports, 1 Fire Alarm Activation, 3 “Police Help” Callbox Activations, 26 Traffic Violations, 1 Motor Vehicle Collision, 24 Suspicious Activity Reports, 4 Welfare Concern Reports, 2 Medical Emergency Assist Reports, 1 Found Property Report, 1 Stuck Elevator Report, 1 Water Leak, 4 Unsecured Door Reports, and 15 Public Assist Requests between 03/11/16 and 03/14/16.
