Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University Police Department Patrol Officers between Friday 04/01/16 and Monday, 04/04/16. GREGEORY GYMNASIUM, 2101 Speedway Theft: A brown wallet containing $60 in cash, three forms of identification, a debit card, and a credit card was stolen after it was left on a squat rack while the owner took a short break from squatting. Loss value: $$65.00. Occurred on 04/01/16 between 4:30 p.m. and 4:35 p.m. GREGEORY GYMNASIUM, 2101 Speedway Robbery: A UT student was working an outdoor event on the Gregory Gymnasium Plaza by handing out burnt orange drawstring backpacks to UT students who signed-up to participate in the event. Another UT student approached the first and declared his allegiance as a UT student but could not answer in the affirmative as a participant in the event. Realizing he wouldn't get a backpack, the second student reached for a handful of backpacks at one time. The working student pulled the backpacks back. The second student then shoved the first and absconded with a single backpack. After a short chase, the thieving student yelled a threat to his victim which then ended the event…for the moment. Approximately 45 minutes later, the victim observed the thieving student at Jester and summoned the police. The stolen backpack was retrieved from in-between two layers of the suspect's clothing. Recovery value: $20.00. Occurred on 04/02/16 at 9:02 a.m. . . C E RESEARCH C , 10100 Burnet Road Theft: Several bronze letters were stolen from both sides of the entrance sign located on the east side of the J.J. Pickle Research Campus. Loss value: $500.00. Discovered on 04/03/16 at 11:02 a.m. JESTER ACADEMIC CENTER, 201 East 21st Street Public Intoxication / Possession of Fictitious License: A staff member of a 1st floor eatery summoned UT police officers for a student who was exhibiting a severe, involuntary physical reaction to the over-consumption of an alcoholic beverage. Officers were able to locate the student as he remained surrounded by the evidence of his own making. The location of his alcohol consumption was written all over his face – literally all over his face as he had magic marker writings all over his body. One such writing was the Greek word representing the 6th letter of that alphabet. The student, who was under the age of 21, was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was a physical danger to himself. Once in custody, officer located a fictitious driver's license in the student's wallet. That fictitious driver's license purported the student to be older than 21. Occurred on 04/01/16 at 7:49 p.m. JESTER ACADEMIC CENTER, 201 East 21st Street Forgery (Counterfeit U.S. Currency): A Jester City Limits manager reported one of the cafeteria's cashiers accepted a seemingly authentic $20 U.S. note during the business day. Upon inspecting the day's registers, the staff member discovered the $20 note to be fictitious. Loss value: The $20 dollar note, the product that the offender purchased with the fake $20 note, the change that was given back to the offender at the time of transaction and a small piece of confidence we all hold in the U.S. financial system. Occurred on 04/01/16 between 7:00 a.m. and 4:20 p.m. JESTER EAST, 201 East 21st Street Theft / Sexual Assault: A UT student contacted the UT police department to report the theft of her Apple iPhone and purse had been stolen from her residence hall room overnight. The student woke up in the morning to discover an over-night guest was no longer in her room and her property had been stolen. The student also believed she may have been sexually assaulted during the night. Reported on 04/01/16 at 9:42 a.m. MIKE MYERS SATDIUM, 707 Clyde Littlefield Theft: A lime green colored Under Armour backpack containing a Samsung Galaxy 6 cellular telephone, a 14K gold cross, and a black leather wallet with a debit card and identification card was stolen after the owner left the backpack beside the field while he participated in a track event. Loss value: $575.00. Occurred on 04/03/16 between 12:10 p.m. and 12:15 p.m. PARKING LOT 70, 2000 Robert Dedman Theft (2 Counts): Two non-UT athletes had items stolen from their bags that were left along a fence line during the Texas Relay Track Event. A pair of Ray Ban Aviator sunglasses was stolen from one bag while a pair of blue Sauconey tennis shoes, a white t-shirt, a water bottle, and $30 in cash was stolen from the second backpack. Loss value: $205.00. Occurred on 04/02/16 between 12:15 p.m. and 12:45 p.m. PARKING LOT 104, 1900 North IH 35 Burglary of Motor Vehicle: The driver's side door lock to a red Ford pick-up truck was damaged when an unknown subject forced entry into the truck. The truck's in-dash stereo system was stolen from the truck along with a hover board. Repair cost: $150.00. Loss value: $200.00. Occurred between 03/31/16 and 04/03/16. PARKING LOT 104, 1900 North IH 35 Criminal Mischief: The driver's side door lock to a white Ford pick-up truck was damaged in an apparent attempt to unlock the door. With the lock holding secure, the burglar then broke out the driver's side window while the truck was parked and unattended. No items were stolen from the truck. Repair cost: $300.00. Occurred between 03/31/16 and 04/03/16. PARKING LOT 104, 1900 North IH 35 Criminal Mischief: A large fracture was made in the driver's side window of a parked and unattended black Land Rover. In addition, several pry marks were found above the driver's side door in what appeared to be a failed attempt to enter the vehicle. Repair cost: $300.00. Occurred between 03/31/16 and 04/04/16. PETER T. FLAWN ACADEMIC CNETER, 2304 Whitis Public Intoxication: A UT student, who was under the age of 21, was reported as being passed out on the south side of the building. The responding UT police officer was able to awaken the student with a little effort and determined the student had consumed alcoholic beverages to the point he could not care for himself. In lieu of arrest, the officer summoned a near-by friend of the student to assume care, custody, and control of the student. Occurred on 04/02/16 at 10:40 p.m. ROBERT A. WELCH HALL, 105 East 24th Street Possession of Marijuana / Possession of Controlled Substance / Criminal Trespass Warning (2 counts): A non-UT subject was reported as smoking marijuana in a 2nd floor auditorium. The responding UT police officer located the subject and another non-UT companion inside the auditorium. The second subject was found hiding under a “makeshift bed.” The subject denied smoking marijuana and claimed she had entered the auditorium to change her clothing. The investigation soon revealed the subjects were in possession of not only a hand rolled cigarette containing a total of .01 ounce of marijuana, they were also in possession of 2 pills of the prescription Quetapine. The prescription was not issued to either of these two subjects. In addition to other law enforcement action taken, each subject was also issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 04/01/16 at 8:03 a.m. SPEEDWAY PARKING GARAGE, 105 East 27th Street Criminal Mischief: An unknown subject or subjects bent both exit control arms located at the north exit of the parking garage. Repair cost: $1,000.00. Reported on 04/02/16 at 11:30 a.m. 1000 Manor Road Failure to Stop and Render Aid: A non-UT subject reported her car being struck while she waited at a red light intersection. The driver of the striking vehicle drove away from the collision without stopping to render aid and provide driver information. The victim was able to provide a license plate and description of the striking vehicle. The collision caused scratch down the length of the victim's car. Repair cost: $2,000.00. Reported on 04/01/16 at 2:10 p.m. 1500 Manor Road Driving While Intoxicated: UT police officers responded to a collision between a motor vehicle and a parked car. Upon arrival, officers asked the driver of the striking vehicle for her identification. While the driver retrieved her identification from the center console of her vehicle, an officer observed a pair of brass knuckles in the center console. The non-UT driver was also found to have been operating, more like crashing, a motor vehicle while she was intoxicated. Occurred on 04/04/16 at 7:04 p.m. 200 West 24th Street Public Intoxication / Possession of Fictitious License: A UT student, who was under the age of 21, was observed having a difficult time maintaining his balance as he attempted to cross the street. When checked on, the student demonstrated other difficulties like with his location as he believed he was on the other side of campus. In addition to being found intoxicated to the point he was a danger to himself, the student was also found to be in possession of a fictitious license which purported him to be older than 21. Occurred on 04/03/16 at 3:55 a.m. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 84 Alarm Reports, 7 “Police Help Callbox Activations, 24 Traffic Violations, 6 Motor Vehicle Collisions, 20 Suspicious Activity Reports, 2 Welfare Concern Reports, 4 Medical emergency Assist Requests, 1 Stuck Elevator Report, 1 Unsecured Door, 5 Found Property Reports, and 18 Public Assist Requests between 04/01/16 and 04/04/16.
