Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University Police Department Patrol Officers between Monday, 04/04/16 and Tuesday, 04/05/16. GREGORY GYMNASIUM, 2101 Speedway Graffiti: Black spray paint was used to write words on a cement retaining wall located on the west side of the gymnasium. Removal cost: $100.00. Reported on 04/04/16 at 6:31 p.m. SOUTH MALL Criminal Mischief: An unknown person or persons used green chalk to write words on the plaza and on two benches located on the south side of the Main Building. Removal cost: $50.00. Reported on 04/04/16 at 7:21 a.m. 2200 Alamo Failure To Identify / Assist Outside Agency: A UT police officer made a traffic stop on a non-UT subject for operating an unregistered motor vehicle without wearing safety belts. A second non-UT subject was found lying on the back seat. That subject initially provided a fictitious name and date of birth. When her correct identity was established, it was learned she had an outstanding, outside agency arrest warrant for a probation violation involving a possession of controlled substance case. The passenger was taken into custody while the driver received a plethora of citations including the no seat belt violation, operating a vehicle with expired registration, failure to carry and exhibit a driver's license, having a wrong or fictitious license plate, and failure to maintain financial responsibility. Occurred on 04/04/16 at 8:12 a.m. 2200 Guadalupe Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was stopped after he illegally parked his vehicle in a manner that blocked the roadway. The subject was found to have two outstanding, outside agency arrest warrants for consuming alcohol in a prohibited area and for smoking in a prohibited area. Occurred on 04/04/16 at 1:38 p.m. 100 West Dean Keeton Public Intoxication: A UT student was observed stumbling to the point he nearly fell over. When the student was stopped and asked for his identification, he handed the officer a $20 bill from his wallet and an insurance card before he was able to properly identify his driver's license. The student stated he had been drinking downtown in celebration of a friend's 21st birthday. While the student was deemed to be intoxicated to the point he was a danger to himself, he was turned over to a near-by sober friend instead of being arrested. Occurred on 04/05/16 at 2:45 a.m. 600 West Martin Luther King Possession of Open Container / Possession of Marijuana: A non-UT subject was stopped for operating a motor vehicle with an expired registration. Upon stopping the vehicle, the officer observed an open can of beer in the center console. The odor of beer was not the only olfactory clue the officer picked-up on. A secondary odor led his nose to the discovery of two hand-rolled marijuana cigarettes in the glove compartment of the vehicle. Occurred on 04/03/16 at 5:00 p.m. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 31 Alarm Reports, 3 “Police Help Callbox Activations, 14 Traffic Violations, 4 Suspicious Activity Reports, and 5 Public Assist Requests between 04/04/16 and 04/05/16.
