Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University Police Department Patrol Officers between Friday, 05/20/16 and Monday, 05/23/16. GEORGE I. SANCHEZ, 1912 Speedway Theft: An iPhone cellphone charger was stolen form a desk in a 4th floor office. Loss value: $18.99. Occurred between 05/19/16 at 7:00 p.m. and 05/20/16 at 8:20 a.m. GREGORY GYMNASIUM, 2101 Speedway Assault: A perceived basketball foul led to a heated argument between a UT student and a subject known only as “Georgeâ€. The argument ended when “George†punched the student in the face. “George†promptly left the basketball courts after that obvious foul. Occurred on 05/22/16 at 6:50 p.m. GUADALUPE PARKING GARAGE, 417 West 17th Street Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was reported as yelling at himself while smoking near the 1st floor trash dumpsters. Officer located the subject and found he had previously been issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 05/21/16 at 1:09 a.m. MAIN BUILDING, 110 Inner Campus Drive Criminal Trespass: A UT patrol officer observed a subject exiting a 1st floor restroom. The officer recognized the subject as someone who had previously been issued a written criminal trespass warning. The officer detained the subject, confirmed the prior warning and took the subject into custody. Occurred on 05/22/16 at 1:56 p.m. SAN ANTONIO PARKING GARAGE, 2420 San Antonio Burglary of Motor Vehicle: The soft top to a yellow Jeep was cut while the Jeep was parked on the ramp between the 3rd and 4th levels of the parking garage. The locked center console of the Jeep was pried open. A GPS system was removed from the console and placed on the front passenger seat. No items were stolen from the Jeep. Repair cost: $400.00. Occurred between 05/21/16 at 9:00 a.m. and 05/22/16 at 7:30 a.m. TOWNES HALL, 727 East Dean Keeton Theft: Two books were stolen from a book case located in a 2nd floor lobby. The book case was secured by a sliding glass door with a lock. The reporting person demonstrated how the sliding door and lock could be defeated by simply tilting the door. Loss value: $220.00. Occurred between 05/17/16 at 5:00 p.m. and 05/19/16 at 3:00 p.m. 2200 Guadalupe Possession of Marijuana / Possession of Fictitious License or Certificate / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A patrolling UT patrol officer came across two non-UT subjects smoking a hand rolled cigarette. The odor emanating from the cigarette was known by the officer as that of burning marijuana. One of the two subjects was also found to be in possession of a plastic bag containing .10 ounces of marijuana and a glass pipe with burned marijuana residue. The other subject was found to be in possession of a fictitious driver's license. Occurred on 05/20/16 at 10:37 p.m. 2000 Red River Public Intoxication / Possession of Marijuana: A non-UT subject was reported as lying in the grass beside the road. Austin-Travis County EMS was summoned to the scene to check the subject's welfare. The subject refused medical attention but was found to be a danger to himself as a result of his alcohol intake. The subject was also found to be in possession of .01 ounces of marijuana. Occurred on 05/22/16 at 4:33 a.m. 1600 San Antonio Public Intoxication / Possession of Dangerous Drug (2 counts): A UT patrol officer observed a group of subjects loitering under a “No Trespassing†sign affixed to a business. One of the subjects was face down and passed out. Upon approaching the subjects, the officer detected a strong odor of burned synthetic cannabinoid known as “K2â€. One of the subjects attempted to conceal a package of the synthetic cannabinoid as the officer approached. That subject was taken into custody for the possession of .17 ounces of K2. When the subject who was passed out was awakened, he immediately became combative. The subject then discharged a liquid substance from his mouth in the direction of the officers. As a prophylactic measure, that subject was fitted with a “spit maskâ€. The subject was then fitted with a second mask after he literally chewed through the first mask. That subject was found to be under the influence of an intoxicating substance to the point he was deemed to be a danger to himself and others. That subject as also found to be in possession of .13 ounces of K2. Occurred on 05/22/16 at 9:41 p.m. 1900 San Jacinto Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject made eye contact with a patrolling officer as the subject attempted to cross the street. Upon seeing the officer, the subject took off running; right into a pole. After righting himself, the subject again took flight. When the shirtless subject was stopped, he admitted he had “Way too much to drink.†The officer agreed with the subject's self-assessment and took him into custody for public intoxication. Occurred on 05/21/16 at 1:30 a.m. 2500 San Jacinto Public Intoxication: A UT patrol officer was flagged own by a non-UT subject. The subject told the officer he offered a ride to an obviously intoxicated subject he found several blocks away. When the intoxicated subject could not provide the Good Samaritan a home address, the Good Samaritan decided it would be best for the police to provide the intoxicated subject a ride. The officer removed the intoxicated subject from the Good Samaritan's vehicle and identified that subject as a UT student, who was under the age of 21. The officer did provide the student with a ride. Occurred on 05/21/16 at 3:45 a.m. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 58 Alarm Reports, 2 Fire Alarm Activations, 5 “Police Help†Callbox Activations, 13 Suspicious Activity Reports, 4 Suspicious Person Reports, 2 Suspicious Vehicle Reports, 32 Traffic Violations, 5 Motor Vehicle Collision Reports, 1 Traffic Control Request, 2 Courtesy Escorts, 18 Foot Patrols, 1 Welfare Concern Report, 12 Medical Emergency Assists, 1 Stuck Elevator, 6 Found Property Reports, Witnessed Some 8,900 New Graduates Receive Degrees, and provided 13 Public Assist Requests between 05/20/16 and 05/23/16.
