Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University Police Department Patrol Officers between Wednesday, 07/06/16 and Thursday, 07/07/16. ****Crime Alert from The Austin Police Department**** Recently, an officer with The Austin Police Department reached out to me to advise The Austin Police Department has seen a rise in motor vehicle thefts in the areas west and north of the UT Campus. In many of the cases, the vehicle keys were left in or with the vehicle at the time of the theft. Several of the thefts were of motorcycles or scooters. The Austin Police Department provided the following information: Auto Thefts West Campus and North Campus (5/28/16-6/27/16): 12 cases in which the Keys were left in vehicle. 3 thefts occurred at 1009 W 26th St (all mopeds/scooters)-Monday/Thursday 2 thefts occurred at 2401 San Gabriel (moped/motorcycle) North Campus: Motorcycle, Keys left in Vehicle, Chevy HHR Recovered West Campus: 9 Cases (6 were mopeds/scooters and 1 motorcycle); in 1 case, the keys were left in the ignition (Jeep Grand Cherokee) Moped/Scooter/Motorcycle Thefts (7 cases): 5 were Hondas Days/Times of thefts: Saturday-Monday and Thursday (Mostly Monday/Thursday); Mostly overnight hours 2am-6am If you have any information regarding these thefts, you are encouraged to contact the Austin Police Department. Remember to keep your vehicle locked and never leave your keys in your vehicle. Treat motorcycles and mopeds like a bicycle. Use a front wheel lock and a cable lock to secure your parked motorcycle or moped to a fixed object. GOLDSMITH HALL, 310 Inner Campus Drive Criminal Mischief: UT police officers were summoned to investigate a report of an architecture summer program participant who was bleeding from the leg and hand. Responding officer located the program participant who advised the officers he had kicked a glass door, out of frustration, after a poor performance on a presentation. The impact caused the glass to break which resulted in a cut to his leg and hand. Austin-Travis County EMS arrived and transported the program participant to a local hospital for stiches. Repair cost: $200.00. Reported on 07/06/16 at 6:18 p.m. LITTLEFIELD FOUNTAIN, 200 West 21st Street Graffiti: Red spray paint was used to write words on a retaining wall located on the west side of the fountain. Removal cost: $100.00. Discovered on 07/07/16 at 6:05 a.m. MAIN BUILDING, 110 Inner Campus Drive Criminal Trespass Warning (2 counts): Two non-UT subjects were found sleeping on benches located on the south side of the building. Both subjects were awoken with the issuance of written criminal trespass warning citations. Occurred on 07/07/16 at 1:49 a.m. UNIVERSITY POLICE BUILDING, 2201 Robert Dedman Graffiti: Black spray paint was used to write words on an exterior wall located on the south side of the building. Removal cost: $100.00. Reported on 07/07/16 at 5:44 a.m. 2500 San Jacinto Assist Outside Agency: UT police officers were informed of a construction worker, on campus, who had active warrants for his arrest. Officer met with the worker and confirmed he had three outstanding outside agency arrest warrants for the possession of controlled substance and two for driving while intoxicated. The worker was taken into custody without incident. Occurred on 07/06/16 at 11:23 a.m. 2300 Speedway Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was reported as drinking a beer while sitting on a bench. The responding UT officer located the subject who was indeed consuming an alcoholic beverage. The subject stated he was drinking the beer while on his way to bail out a friend from the local lock-up. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning and directed to leave the campus – or he might very well find himself in the same predicament as his friend. Occurred on 07/06/16 at 9:21 a.m. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 17 Alarm Reports , 7 Traffic Violations, 9 Foot Patrols, 3 Courtesy Escorts, 5 Suspicious Activity Reports, 2 Welfare Concern Reports, 1 Stuck Elevator Report, 1 Found Property Report, and 2 Public Assists between 07/06/16 and 07/07/16.
