Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University Police Department Patrol Officers between Friday, 07/15/16 and Monday, 07/18/16. ****Administrative Message**** The UT Police Department has received several complaints from pedestrians about bicyclists riding their bicycles on the sidewalk near the construction area at 24th Street and Speedway. In Texas, bicyclists are required to follow the same laws as operators of motor vehicles; which includes riding in the roadway. Expect to see an increase of officers in the area to provide public education in the form of warnings to be followed by the issuance of citations if the safety in the area does not improve over the coming days. BRAZOS PARKING GARAGE, 210 East Martin Luther King Burglary of Motor Vehicle: An unknown person entered a parked and unattended Toyota Camry while the Toyota was parked on level 2 of the parking garage. A black gym bag containing a weight lifting belt, wrist wraps, padded weight lifting straps, weight lifting knee caps, powerlifting shoes and a container of dietary supplements was stolen from the vehicle. At the time of the burglary, it was unknown if the doors to the vehicle were left unlocked. Loss value: $464.00. occurred between 07/14/16 at 8:00 a.m. and 07/15/16 at 1:45 p.m. F. LOREN WINSHIP DRAMA BUILDING, 300 East 23rd Street Public Intoxication: A UT student was found having difficulty maintaining a linear direction of travel while attempting to walk along the south side of the building. The student knew he was on campus but wasn't sure of exactly where he was on campus. The student believed his wallet was his cellular telephone – that being said, the student had a very difficult time calling a sober friend. The officer was able to locate a number for a sober friend, who arrived on scene to assume care, custody, and control of the wayward student. Occurred on 07/16/16 at 3:10 a.m. GOLDSMITH HALL, 310 Inner Campus Criminal Trespass: UT Police Officers responded to a “Police Help” callbox activation from the south side of the building. Upon arrival, the officers found a non-UT subject standing near the callbox. The subject was yelling at pedestrians. Officers identified the subject and learned he had previously been issued a written criminal trespass warning after activating the same callbox when police assistance was not needed. The subject admitted to activating the callbox to report a theft that had occurred in 1982. Occurred on 07/17/16 at 4:23 p.m. GUADALUPE PARKING GARAGE, 417 West 17th Street Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A small left rear window was broken out of a Toyota Corolla while the vehicle was parked on the ramp between level 2 and level 3. Several items from the glove box of the vehicle were disturbed. A bottle of perfume, various bottles of body lotion and $190.00 in cash was stolen from the vehicle. Repair cost: $170.00. Loss value: $222.00. Occurred on 07/16/16 between 10:00 a.m. and 4:17 p.m. GUADALUPE PARKING GARAGE, 417 West 17th Street Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A small left rear window was broken out of a Toyota 4Runner while the vehicle was parked on the 1st level of the parking garage. Several items from the glove box of the vehicle were disturbed. No items were stolen from the vehicle. Repair cost: $170.00. Occurred on 07/16/16 between 10:00 a.m. and 4:17 p.m. GUADALUPE PARKING GARAGE, 417 West 17th Street Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A small left rear window was broken out of a Toyota Tacoma while the vehicle was parked on the 1st level of the parking garage. Several items from the glove box of the vehicle were disturbed. No items were stolen from the vehicle. Repair cost: $170.00. Occurred on 07/16/16 between 10:00 a.m. and 4:17 p.m. GUADALUPE PARKING GARAGE, 417 West 17th Street Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A small left rear window was broken out of a Mazda pick-up Truck while the vehicle was parked on the 3rd level of the parking garage. Several items from the glove box of the vehicle were disturbed. A bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon was stolen from the vehicle. Repair cost: $170.00. Loss value: $36.00. Occurred on 07/16/16 between 10:00 a.m. and 4:17 p.m. GUADALUPE PARKING GARAGE, 417 West 17th Street Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A left front window was broken out of a Toyota Corolla while the vehicle was parked on the 3rd level of the parking garage. Several items from the glove box of the vehicle were disturbed. At the time of the investigation, it was unknown if any items were stolen from the vehicle. Repair cost: $250.00. Occurred on 07/16/16 between 10:00 a.m. and 4:17 p.m. GUADALUPE PARKING GARAGE, 417 West 17th Street Burglary of Motor Vehicle: The right rear window was broken out of a Red Ford Escape while the vehicle was parked on the 2nd level of the parking garage. At the time of the investigation, it was unknown if any items were stolen from the vehicle. Repair cost: $250.00. Occurred on 07/16/16 between 10:00 a.m. and 4:17 p.m. GUADALUPE PARKING GARAGE, 417 West 17th Street Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A left front window was broken out of a Chevrolet Cruz while the vehicle was parked on the 2nd level of the parking garage. At the time of the investigation, it was unknown if any items were stolen from the vehicle. Repair cost: $250.00. Occurred on 07/16/16 between 10:00 a.m. and 4:17 p.m. JESSE H. JONES COMMUNICATIONS CENTER, 2504-A Whitis Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student, who was under the age of 21, was reported as acting suspiciously. Responding UT police officers located the student as he attempted to walk away. The student was stopped and found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was deemed to be a danger to himself and others. In lieu of arrest, the student was issued a citation for the consumption of alcohol by a minor and turned over to a sober friend who was summoned to the scene. Occurred on 07/16/16 at 1:45 a.m. PIZZA HUT, 1811 Guadalupe (non-UT Property) Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was reported as walking shoeless in the roadway. The responding UT police officer observed the subject stumbling up the entry stairs to the Pizza Hut. When the officer entered the restaurant, he observed the subject encroaching upon patron's personal space and asking them for pizza. The subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was a danger to himself. Occurred on 07/16/16 at 9:21 p.m. SAN JACINTO RESIDENCE HALL, 309 East 21st Street Theft: An aqua blue colored Schwinn bicycle was stolen while it was secured with a chain lock to a bicycle rack located on the north side of the residence hall. The cut chain lock was located near the bicycle rack. Loss value: $250.00. Occurred between 07/08/16 at 5:00 p.m. and 07/15/16 at 7:00 a.m. 1900 Rio Grande Wrong Way on a One-Way Roadway / Possession of Marijuana / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A non-UT subject was stopped for driving the wrong way on a one-way roadway. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer detected the distinct odor of marijuana wafting from the passenger compartment. A prescription pill bottle, containing .07 ounces of marijuana, was found on the front passenger floorboard of the vehicle. The name on the prescription pill bottle matched the name of the non-UT front seat passenger of the vehicle (in the police realm, we call that a clue). In addition to the marijuana, a metal grinder with marijuana residue was also found inside the vehicle. Occurred on 07/16/16 at 9:40 p.m. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 52 Alarm Reports, 1 “Police Help” Callbox Activation, 2 Fire Alarm Activations, 32 Traffic Violations, 2 Motor Vehicle Collision Reports, 1 Found Property Report, 21 Foot Patrols, 4 Unsecured Door Reports, 1 non-Criminal Fire, 2 Medical Emergency Assist Requests, 20 Suspicious Activity Reports, 2 Malfunctioning Light Reports, 7 Courtesy Escorts, and 9 Public Assists between 07/15/16 and 07/18/16.
