Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University Police Department Patrol Officers between Friday, 08/05/16 and Wednesday, 08/10/16. PICKLE RESEARCH CAMPUS, 10601 Exploration Way Theft: A UT staff member reported a former staff member had not returned a UT computer. Estimated loss value: $1,500. Reported at 1:03 p.m. on 08/06/16. O. HENRY HALL, 601 Colorado Street Public Intoxication: A UT guard reported a non-UT subject was asleep on the property and refused to leave. Our officers responded and located the man who had apparently been so deeply asleep on the concrete, he had not noticed when he soiled himself. Our officers concluded that the cause of such a deep sleep was alcohol-related and transported the subject to the county jail. Occurred at 11:40 p.m. on 08/05/16. 1900 BLOCK OF GUADALUPE ST Driving While License Invalid: A UTPD officer noticed a driver operating their vehicle aggressively while following too closely and honking their horn at another vehicle. Our officer stopped the non-UT driver and found that they had an arrest warrant from another law enforcement agency and had a suspended license. Our officer demonstrated the consequences of such rude behavior with a trip to the local magistrate. Occurred at 2:26 a.m. on 08/06/16. SAN ANTONIO GARAGE, 2420 San Antonio Street Criminal Mischief: While patrolling the inside of the garage, UTPD officers heard a loud noise and went to investigate. They discovered that an unknown motorist decide to leave the garage without paying and broke the control arm on the way out. Estimated repair cost: $200. Occurred at 2:45 a.m. on 08/06/16. BELMONT HALL, 2109 San Jacinto Boulevard Theft: A UT student employee called to report a theft from the Longhorn Limited store at this location. Our officers responded and located the non-UT subject that was described by the caller. Our officers placed the subject under arrest for theft. Occurred at 1:56 p.m. on 08/06/16. 2500 BLOCK OF GUADALUPE ST Driving While Intoxicated: A vehicle travelling next to a UTPD patrol car came out of its lane and almost struck the officer's patrol vehicle. The officer noticed the vehicle swerve out of its lane several more times as they tried to get behind the vehicle to stop it. Once the officer was able to safely stop the non-UT driver, they detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver's breath and clothing. The driver had trouble answering simple questions while alternately crying and yelling at the officer. Our officers transported the driver to the county jail so that he could yell at their staff instead. Occurred at 2:06 a.m. on 08/06/16. 2300 BLOCK OF RED RIVER ST Driving While Intoxicated: A patrolling UTPD officer noticed a vehicle swerving into oncoming traffic at this location. Our officer stopped the vehicle and found the non-UT driver was diabetic and trying to test their blood sugar levels. Once the driver found his blood sugar level to be in a normal range, the officer asked him about the smell of alcohol coming from the car. After conducting standardized field sobriety tests, the officer was able to determine that the cause of the erratic driving was due to alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported to the county jail where the medical staff confirmed our officer's assertion. Occurred at 2:45 a.m. on 08/07/16. GUADALUPE GARAGE, 417 W 17th Street Theft: A UT staff member reported someone stole two bicycles from this location. Estimated loss value: $100. Reported at 11:16 a.m. on 08/08/16. PICKLE RESEARCH CAMPUS, 10100 Burnet Road Criminal Mischief: A UT guard discovered an unknown person cut a hole in the fence at this location. Estimated repair cost: $50. Reported at 1:34 a.m. on 08/09/16. WALTER WEBB HALL, 405 W 25th Street Graffiti: A patrolling UTPD officer noticed someone spray painted letters on this building. Estimated cleanup cost: $75. Discovered at 3:08 a.m. on 08/11/16. O. HENRY HALL, 601 Colorado Street Public Intoxication: A UTPD officer discovered a non-UT subject sleeping on the stone steps of this location. When officers asked him how much he had to drink that night, he responded with his date of birth and told officers that it was his birthday. Based on the date he provided, it was not his birthday. Officers helped him celebrate not his birthday with a trip to the county jail. Occurred at 4:02 a.m. on 08/10/16. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 106 Alarm Reports, 50 Traffic Violations, 29 Suspicious Activity Reports, 33 Foot Patrols, 2 Unsecured Door Reports, 12 Assist Other Law Enforcement Agency Requests, 2 Motor Vehicle Collisions, 3 Welfare Concerns, 3 Police “Emergency Help” Callbox Activations, and 15 Public Assists between 08/05/16 and 08/10/16.
