Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University Police Department Patrol Officers between Friday, 08/12/16 and Monday, 08/15/16. ANDREWS RESIDENCE HALL, 2401 Whitis Theft: A Samsung tablet and its charging cable were stolen from a bag that was affixed to a custodial staff cart while the cart was left in a 2nd floor hallway. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred on 08/12/16 between 11:35 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. ART BUILDING, 2301 San Jacinto Public Intoxication: A UT student, who was under the age of 21, was observed sitting on the exterior steps located on the west side of the building. As the officer drew nearer, he noted the subject wasn't just sitting on the steps; she was using them as latrine. The subject was found to have consumed alcoholic beverages earlier in the evening. The subject was somewhat confused as to the direction of her residence. In lieu of arrest, the subject was turned over to a sober, responsible friend who was summoned to the scene. Occurred on 08/13/16 at 6:00 a.m. JESTER ACADEMIC CENTER, 201 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT staff member reported a non-UT subject was sleeping inside a 2nd floor classroom. The responding officer found the slumbering subject on the floor of the classroom. The subject was awoken and issued a written criminal trespass warning citation. Occurred on 08/13/16 at 5:13 a.m. JESTER ACADEMIC CENTER, 201 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was reported as making statement of a threatening nature regarding local law enforcement. When the subject was located, he acquiesced he had spoken about law enforcement officers with someone, but denied making threatening statements. The subject was found to have no official business on campus and was issued a written criminal trespass warning citation. Occurred on 08/13/16 at 4:08 p.m. 600 West Martin Luther King Blvd Possession of Marijuana / Possession of a Dangerous Drug / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A non-UT subject was stopped for operating a motor vehicle at night without its headlamps illuminated. The officer's nose led him to the discovery of a plastic bag containing 0.06 ounces of marijuana and .24 ounces of a synthetic cannabinoid. Occurred on 08/14/16 at 12:03 a.m. Martin Luther King Blvd and Nueces Street Possession of Marijuana: While waiting for a tow truck to remove the vehicle from the above case, a UT police officer observed a non-UT subject approach the officer's marked patrol car. The subject directed the officer to move the patrol car. The officer observed the subject was holding something in his hand. When the officer asked what the item was, the subject quickly replied “nothing” and walked away. Upon further investigation, the officer learned the subject was holding a hand rolled cigarette that contained .006 ounces of marijuana. Occurred on 08/14/16 at 12:39 a.m. 1900 Trinity Failure to Identify / Driving Without a License: A non-UT subject was stopped for running a red light while driving a maroon Dodge Pick-up truck. The subject initially provided the officer with a fictitious name. When questioned a subsequent time, the subject provided her correct name and date of birth. The officer then discovered the subject did not possess or have issued to her a valid driver's license. Occurred on 08/12/16 at 3:17 p.m. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 55 Alarm Reports, 1 “Police Help” Callbox Activation, 43 Traffic Violations, 1 Motor Vehicle Collision, 16 Suspicious Activity Reports, 14 Foot Patrols, 1 Medical Emergency Assist Request, 1 Welfare Concern, 1 Found Property Report, 2 Malfunctioning Light Reports, and 22 Public Assists between 08/12/16 and 08/15/16.
