Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University Police Department Patrol Officers between Friday, 09/09/16 and Monday, 09/12/16. SAN JACINTO HALL, 309 East 21st Street Possession of Marijuana 2oz or Less/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: UTPD Dispatch received a call reporting a smell of marijuana. Our officers responded and were able to determine what room the smell was coming from. The room's occupant, a UT student, opened the door and gave officers permission to come inside. When officers asked him about the smell, he handed the officers a baggie of marijuana and a glass pipe that he used to smoke it. Based on the man's surprising level of cooperation, no charges as being filed at this time. Occurred on 09/09/16 at 9:28 p.m. WEST MALL, 306 Inner Campus Drive Public Intoxication: UTPD officers responded to a medical assist call on the West Mall of the Main Building. EMS was treating two UT students who were reported as ill. Based on the smell of the regurgitated stomach contents covering both subjects, officers quickly determined that the cause of their illness was a prodigious intake of ethanol. After the officers finished dodging more vomit, one subject was released to a sober party and the other was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Occurred on 09/10/16 at 6:51 p.m. DARRELL K ROYAL MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2200 Robert Dedman Drive Public Intoxication/Failure to Identify: Event staff reported that a UT student attempted to rush past them into the stadium. Officers responded and located the woman as she was holding her phone a couple of inches from her face, looking for her ticket. When officers attempted to identify her, she gave them a fake ID which listed her age as 21. She also told officers that she was a senior and was graduating in 2021. That sparked our officers' curiosity and they asked what program required such lengthy study. The student responded, “I am stupid,” and decided not to answer any more questions. Luckily, our officers were able to locate a sober adult who agreed to assume responsibility of the woman until she sobered up. Occurred on 09/10/16 at 6:20 p.m. DARRELL K ROYAL MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2200 Robert Dedman Drive Public Intoxication: UTPD officers responded to a first aid station at the stadium for a report of an intoxicated person. Our officers were able to determine that the non-UT subject was indeed a danger to himself due to his level of intoxication. The man also refused to attempt to contact anyone who he could be released to. When the EMS personnel gave him a release to sign he wrote, “I am not drunk.” Officers disagreed with this statement to the extent that they transported him to the county jail. Occurred on 09/10/16 at 6:56 p.m. DARRELL K ROYAL MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2200 Robert Dedman Drive Theft: A non-UT subject reported the theft of a backpack. Our officers responded and located a nearby UT student who matched the description provided and whose pants were unzipped. The subject also smelled strongly of alcohol and appeared to be confused by the officers' instructions. After the man was safely detained, officers were able to locate a sober adult who agreed to assume care, custody, and control of the man until he sobered up. Occurred on 09/10/16 at 9:09 p.m. LOT 80, 1900 Red River Street Public Intoxication/Criminal Mischief: UTPD received a call from a non-UT subject who stated that someone damaged her vehicle. When officers arrived they found a key broken off in the lock of that vehicle and a man sitting on the curb nearby. The owner of the vehicle stated that the man broke a key off into the lock while trying to open it. Officers then spoke to the non-UT male subject that she indicated and found that he was extremely intoxicated and believed that the vehicle was his. They placed the man under arrest and removed the broken key from the vehicle's lock.
