Report for 09/14/2016

Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University Police Department Patrol Officers between Tuesday, 09/13/16 and Wednesday, 09/14/16. ***ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE: The University of Texas Police Department has received several recent reports of non- UT affiliated subjects harassing or assaulting UT students. Many of these reports were received second-hand or shared via social media. When offenses are reported this way it becomes very difficult to identify and apprehend these aggressors. UTPD would like to encourage anyone to call 911 any time they feel unsafe. Our officers were able to contact a victim who gave a very good description of a subject who exposed himself to her in the west of campus area. That description is: a black male, 6'4”, athletic build, with short dreadlocks. Please call 911 if you see a person matching this description near campus. Our job is not possible without the support of our campus community and we appreciate the efforts that you all make to create a safer environment for everyone. For more information and safety tips, please refer to the Be Safe website. *** ROBERTS HALL DORMITORY, 303 East 21st Street Theft: A UT student reported that her bicycle was stolen from the rack outside this location. The bicycle was left secured with a cable lock. Estimated loss value: $155. Discovered on 09/13/16 at 1:30 p.m. NEURAL AND MOLECULAR SCIENCE BUILDING, 2506 Speedway Avenue Graffiti: An unknown subject wrote several letters and symbols on a wall at this location in black spray paint. Estimated cost of removal: $100. Discovered on 09/13/16 at 4:30 p.m. 700 BLOCK OF PEARL ST Public Intoxication/Possession of Substance in Penalty Group 2A: A UTPD officer was patrolling the alleyways near campus when he located two non-UT subjects who were lying down in the alley. While checking on them, the officer had them sit up to see if they were able to do so on their own. When one of them sat up, it exposed a hand-rolled cigarette which the officer knew to be commonly used to smoke synthetic cannabinoids or “K2”. At that point, our officer informed them that they were being detained and attempted to place them into handcuffs. One of the subjects objected by slamming his head down on his nearby metal water bottle, causing a large cut. Our officer summoned medical assistance and escorted the man to the hospital, then to the county jail. Occurred on 09/13/16 at 4:35 p.m. SAN ANTONIO GARAGE, 2420 San Antonio Street Graffiti: A patrolling UTPD officer found several undecipherable words painted on UT property at this location in blue and white paint.
