Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University Police Department Patrol Officers between Wednesday, 09/21/16 and Thursday, 09/22/16. CREEKSIDE RESIDENCE HALL, 2501 San Jacinto Boulevard Theft: A UT student reported that his bicycle was stolen from this location. The bicycle was secured to the nearby racks with a U-lock, which was found unlocked on the ground nearby. Estimated loss value: $170. Reported on 09/21/16 at 6:46 p.m. UT ADMINISTRATION BUILDING, 1616 Guadalupe Street Possession of Substance in Penalty Group 2A < 2oz: A patrolling UTPD officer noticed a person sleeping at this location. The officer went to make sure the non-UT subject did not need medical attention and noticed a hand rolled cigarette lying on the ground near the man. The man promptly woke up and attempted to hide the cigarette from view. When our officer asked the man what the substance was, he replied “spice”, a common street name for synthetic cannabinoids. He then volunteered that he had more spice in his front pocket. Our officer thanked him for his honesty and provided a free ride to the county jail. Occurred on 09/21/16 at 10:17 p.m. FRANK ERWIN CENTER, 1701 Red River Street Public Intoxication / Failure to Identify / Possession of Substance in Penalty Group 1 < 1 gram: UTPD officers responded to a call about an unruly patron at a local music event who refused to leave. UT staff members reported that the non-UT subject refused to listen to them and that she was no longer welcome at the event. Our officers located the woman who was having difficulty standing unassisted and attempted to escort her to a place that she could sit down. She responded by calling the officers several unfriendly names. When officers tried to identify her and get her a sober ride home, she lied about her identity several times. Officers then placed her under arrest and during a subsequent search found cocaine in her wallet. Occurred on 09/21/16 at 11:03 p.m. 2400 BLOCK OF SAN JACINTO BLVD Public Intoxication / Evading Detention: A patrolling UTPD officer noticed a UT student with no shirt or shoes on, digging in the dirt near the intersection of 24th Street and San Jacinto. After watching the bizarre behavior, our officer thought the man might be intoxicated and decided to check on him. When the officer approached, the man stopped digging and started to walk away. Our officer commanded him to stop and the man began removing his belongings from his pockets and removing the rest of his clothing. At this point, our officer became certain that the man was intoxicated. Several other officers arrived and attempted to help stop the man who was running towards a busy intersection. The man fought past a couple of officers and kept running towards oncoming traffic until one officer deployed a taser, which slowed the man down enough that all the officers could catch up to him. Our officers called for medical assistance. Travis County EMS responded and sedated the man so that he could receive medical attention. The student and several officers received minor injuries during the interaction.
