Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University Police Department Patrol Officers between Thursday, 09/22/16 and Friday, 09/23/16. ***ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE: UTPD and your local APD district representatives would like to remind the university community to lock your doors and windows, even when you are home or inside your apartment or dorm room. This basic precaution also helps you remember to keep your doors and windows locked when you leave your home. *** JESTER EAST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Criminal Mischief: A UT staff member reported that several exit signs had been damaged at this location. Reported on 09/22/16 at 11:12 p.m. 2000 BLOCK OF SAN JACINTO BLVD Driving While Intoxicated: A UTPD officer noticed a vehicle that had extensive damage and was close to the southwest corner of the football stadium. A UT student flagged the officer down and explained that his tire spontaneously blew out and it caused him to run onto the sidewalk. Based on the strong smell of alcohol coming from the student, our officer began to doubt his story. Upon further examination, the officer found that the driver struck the curb, which blew out the tire, then jumped the curb, damaged four signposts, and came to rest on the sidewalk. When our officers asked the man if he had been drinking, he responded by calling our officers hurtful names. UTPD officers placed the man under arrest and transported him to the county jail so that he could call the deputies hurtful names instead. Occurred on 09/23/16 at 2:15 a.m. 2700 BLOCK OF GUADALUPE ST Driving While Intoxicated: A patrolling UTPD officer noticed a vehicle traveling without its headlights on. Our officer stopped the driver and found that he was too intoxicated to operate a motor vehicle safely.
