Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University Police Department Patrol Officers between Friday, 09/23/16 and Tuesday, 09/27/16. 2100 BLOCK OF SAN JACINTO BLVD Theft: A UT student reported the theft of a bicycle from this location. The bicycle was secured with a chain lock. Estimated loss value: $201. Reported on 09/23/16 at 10:58 a.m. BELO CENTER FOR NEW MEDIA, 300 West Dean Keeton Street Theft: a UT student reported the theft of an unattended cell phone from this location. Estimated loss value: $500. Occurred on 09/23/16 at 10:00 a.m. UNIVERSITY TEACHING CENTER, 105 West 21st Street Criminal Trespass: UTPD Dispatch received a report of a person with no shirt on lying down in one of the common areas of this location. Our officers found a non-UT person matching that description who had removed his shirt and shoes, and was yelling profanities. Our officers discovered that the man had a previous written criminal trespass warning and placed him under arrest. Occurred on 09/23/16 at 1:45 p.m. ALMETRIUS DUREN HALL, 2624 Whitis Avenue Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: UTPD officers responded to a report of an intoxicated person at this location. After locating the UT student, it was found that he needed medical attention. The student was transported to a local hospital for the treatment of alcohol poisoning. No charges were filed under the Medical Amnesty Act. Occurred on 09/23/16 at 6:18 p.m. GREGORY GYM, 2100 Speedway Avenue Criminal Trespass: A patrolling UTPD officer noticed a non-UT subject in this area who the officer knew to have a previous criminal trespass warning. As the officer was approaching the man, he noticed that the man was yelling at nearby pedestrians. When the officer stopped the man and asked him if he knew that he had a trespass warning, the man told him that our officers they did not have the right to stop him from “spreading God's message”. Since the Almighty did not make his preference known at the time, our officers defaulted to the laws of the State of Texas and placed the man under arrest for Criminal Trespass. Occurred on 09/23/16 at 6:48 p.m. 400 W BLOCK OF 24th ST Driving While License Invalid: While patrolling campus, a UTPD officer noticed a vehicle traveling with no lights on. The non-UT driver expressed to the officer that he did not feel the need to obtain a valid driver's license or liability insurance to operate his motor vehicle on Texas roadways. Our officers disagreed and placed the man under arrest. Occurred on 09/24/16 at 12:24 a.m. 2100 BLOCK OF SPEEDWAY AVE Public Intoxication / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: UTPD Dispatch received a call about a subject passed out in a planter at this location. Our officers responded and located a UT student lying in the dirt. The man was only able to respond to officer's questions with noises and had an extremely swollen ankle. Our officers summoned medical help who transported the man to a local hospital. Occurred on 09/24/16 at 2:03 a.m. 1900 BLOCK OF NUECES ALLEY Public Intoxication: A patrolling UTPD officer found a UT student who was asleep while standing up and leaning against a nearby vehicle. Our officers attempted to wake the man up to learn how he managed such a feat. Unfortunately, the man was so intoxicated that he was unable to communicate his technique. Officers were able to locate a sober adult to assume care, custody, and control of the man until he sobered up. Occurred on 09/24/16 at 5:42 a.m. VARIOUS LOCATIONS Credit Card Abuse: A UT student reported that his lost credit card had been used to make several charges in the Austin area. Reported on 09/24/16 at 7:06 p.m. ALMETRIUS DUREN HALL, 2624 Whitis Avenue Public Intoxication: A UT staff member reported that there was a non-UT subject passed out in the lobby of this location. Our officers arrived and discovered that the man needed medical attention due to his level of intoxication. Occurred on 09/24/16 at 10:01 p.m. 2100 BLOCK OF RIO GRANDE ST Driving While Intoxicated: A UTPD officer noticed a vehicle near this area traveling with no headlights on. After stopping the non-UT driver, our officers began to suspect that the man was intoxicated due to the heavy smell of alcohol on his breath. After the man consented to taking Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, officers determined that the man was too intoxicated to safely operate a motor vehicle. Occurred on 09/25/16 at 1:42 a.m. ALMETRIUS DUREN HALL, 2642 Whitis Avenue Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: UTPD dispatch received a call about a UT student passed out in a bathroom at this location. Our officers responded and located a man on the floor of the bathroom with a blanket and pillow. The student calmly explained that he felt ill from consuming alcohol, so he elected to sleep next to the toilet. No charges were filed under the Medical Amnesty Act. Occurred on 09/25/16 at 2:57 a.m. STUDENT ACTIVITY CENTER, 2201 Speedway Avenue Criminal Trespass: UTPD Dispatch received a call about a non-UT subject acting suspiciously at this location. Our officers located the person who was described and found that he had an active criminal trespass warning from all UT property. The man was placed under arrest and issued a new written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 09/26/16 at 12:45 p.m. CREEKSIDE DORMITORY, 2501 San Jacinto Boulevard Theft: A UT student reported the theft of his bicycle from the racks outside this location. The bicycle was secured with a cable lock. Estimated loss value: $101. Occurred on 09/26/16 between 11:15 a.m. and 4:35 p.m. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 82 Alarm Reports, 35 Traffic Violations, 21 Suspicious Activity Reports, 4 Motor Vehicle Collisions, 4 Police “Emergency Help” Callbox Activations, 4 Assist Other Law Enforcement Agency Requests, 1 Welfare Concern, 2 Medical Emergencies, 10 Foot Patrols, and 14 Public Assists between 09/23/16 and 09/27/16.
