Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University Police Department Patrol Officers between Thursday, 10/06/16 and Monday, 10/10/16. RAINEY HALL, 200 West 21st Street Graffiti / Criminal Mischief: A UT staff member reported that a men's room stall door had been damaged and there were symbols written on the wall in red ink. Estimated repair cost: $250. Reported on 10/06/16 at 10:06 a.m. 1700 BLOCK OF NUECES ST Public Intoxication: A UTPD officer noticed a man stumbling in the roadway at this location. Several vehicles took evasive action to avoid striking the pedestrian before our officer could stop traffic and get the man safely out of the roadway. The non-UT subject admitted to drinking and officers found several empty containers that previously contained ethanol in his pockets. The man was placed under arrest because his level of intoxication made him a danger to himself. Occurred on 10/06/16 at 11:54 a.m. SAN ANTONTIO GARAGE, 2420 San Antonio Street Graffiti: A UTPD officer noticed several markings that appeared to have been made with a permanent marker on a wall at this location. Estimated cost of removal: $150. Discovered on 10/06/16 on 5:25 p.m. LOT 70, 2000 Robert Dedman Drive Burglary of a Motor Vehicle: A non-UT subject reported that his cellphone was stolen from inside a locked vehicle. Estimated loss value: $800. Discovered on 10/06/16 at 7:00 p.m. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Avenue Theft: A UT student reported the theft of an unattended wallet from this location. Estimated loss value: $70. Discovered on 10/06/16 at 8:09 p.m. BELMONT HALL, 2200 Robert Dedman Drive Theft: A UT student reported the theft of an unattended wallet at this location. Estimated loss value: $50. Discovered on 10/06/16 at 10:45 p.m. 2400 BLOCK OF NUECES ST Minor in Possession of Alcohol: A UTPD officer stopped a vehicle in this location for not displaying its headlights. When the officer approached the vehicle, he spotted several unopened containers of liquor in the rear area of the vehicle. While this would not normally be illegal, the officer discovered that the UT student driver was under the age of 21. Our officer seized the alcohol and issued the driver a citation. Occurred on 10/06/16 at 11:30 p.m. MOORE-HILL DORMITORY, 214 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass / Unlawful Use of a Criminal Instrument / Possession of Marijuana 2oz or Less / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A UT student reported that he saw a man pulling on bicycles and locks near this location. Our officers responded and found a non-UT subject that matched that description. The man provided an interesting story about searching for a lost bike when our officers discovered that he had a previous criminal trespass warning. After the man was placed under arrest, our officers discovered several illegal items and substances on his person. Occurred on 10/07/16 at 6:47 p.m. 2000 BLOCK OF SAN JACINTO ST Possession of Marijuana 2oz or Less / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A UTPD officer stopped a vehicle in this location for traveling with no headlights on. When our officers approached the car, they immediately noticed a strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. One of the non-UT affiliated passengers admitted to possessing the marijuana and several items of paraphernalia. The passenger was issued a citation and released. Occurred on 10/07/16 at 11:39 p.m. INTERSECTION OF 23RD ST AND SAN JACINTO Possession of Marijuana 2oz or Less / Failure to Identify / Tampering with Physical Evidence / Assist Other Law Enforcement Agency: A UTPD officer stopped a vehicle for running the stop sign at this location. When the officer approached, he noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The officer ordered the non-UT driver to exit the vehicle and she dropped a small package into the front seat. Before the officer could attempt to recover it, the driver grabbed it and stuffed it down her pants. Our officer then requested a female officer to help search for what he suspected was hidden contraband. The driver took that opportunity to provide several false names to our officers. It was later revealed that she did so because she had a felony warrant from another law enforcement agency. On the ride to jail, the woman retrieved the item she had concealed and attempted to eat it. Our officer was able to remove what turned out to be a baggy or marijuana from the woman's mouth. Occurred on 10/08/16 at 12:35 a.m. BERNARD AND AUDRE RAPOPORT CENTER, 2225 Speedway Avenue Theft: A UT student reported that her bicycle was stolen from this location. The bicycle was secured with a U-lock. Estimated loss value: $250. Reported on 10/08/16 at 5:06 p.m. 1400 BLOCK OF MLK JR BLVD Driving While Intoxicated: A UTPD officer noticed a vehicle driving at this location with no headlights on. Our officer found that the non-UT driver had a strong smell of alcohol on her breath and asked her to exit her vehicle. Subsequent tests revealed that the driver was too intoxicated to operate a motor vehicle safely. Occurred on 10/08/16 at 10:34 p.m. 2000 BLOCK OF SAN JACINTO Graffiti: An unknown person used to spray paint to make several markings on a UT owner tent. Estimated damage: $250. Discovered on 10/09/16 at 6:27 p.m. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 93 Alarm Reports, 34 Traffic Violations, 21 Suspicious Activity Reports, 5 Motor Vehicle Collisions, 6 Police “Emergency Help” Callbox Activations, 6 Assist Other Law Enforcement Agencies, 7 Welfare Concerns, 5 Medical Emergencies, 3 Foot Patrol, and 11 Public Assists between 10/06/16 and 10/10/16.
