Report for 10/12/2016

Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University Police Department Patrol Officers between Tuesday, 10/11/16 and Wednesday, 10/12/16. SAN JACINTO HALL, 309 East 21st Street Fraud: A UT student reported that she attempted to sell a dress online. A potential buyer sent the student a check for more than the amount that she asked for and requested that she send the remainder of the money via Western Union back to him. Once the student sent the Western Union transfer, she learned that the original check she deposited had bounced. Estimated loss value: $850. Reported on 10/11/16 at 6:45 p.m. ***CRIME PREVENTION TIP: When an offer sounds too good to be true, it generally is. A good way to tell if an offer is a scam is if they offer to send more money than you requested and ask that you transfer the remainder back to them. Money transfers are instantaneous and checks can take several days to process. This is a common scam tactic. *** The University of Texas Police Department responded to 19 Alarm Reports, 10 Traffic Violations, 10 Suspicious Activity Reports, 2 Medical Emergencies, 1 Assist Other Law Enforcement Agency Request, 2 Welfare Concerns, 3 Foot Patrols, and 2 Public Assists between 10/11/16 and 10/12/16.
