Occurred on 10/14/16 at 8:22 a.m. STUDENT ACTIVITY CENTER, 2201 Speedway Avenue Theft: A UT student reported that her unattended backpack was stolen from this location. Estimated loss value: $180. Occurred on 10/14/16 at 9:52 p.m. UNION BUILDING, 2308 Whitis Avenue Public Intoxication: A UT staff member reported that there was a student who refused to leave as the building was closing. UTPD officers responded and found a UT student asleep on the floor near the food court. When the officers woke the student up, they discovered that he had been drinking that night and he asked officers to help him to his room which was “down the hall.” Our officers doubted that the student lived inside the Union building and eventually located a sober adult who agreed to assume care, custody, and control of the student until he sobered up. Occurred on 10/15/16 at 2:53 a.m. JESTER CENTER, 201 East 21st Street Public Intoxication: A UT staff member reported that a distraught woman jumped into his golf cart and refused to get out. Our officers responded to check on the UT student and were unable to understand anything she was saying. Our officers placed the woman under arrest after they were unable to locate a sober party to aid her. Occurred on 10/15/16 at 3:47 a.m. 2000 BLOCK OF UNIVERSITY AVE Public Intoxication: UTPD officers responded to a report of an unconscious person in the grass near this location. Our officers located a non-UT subject who was unable to tell them how he got to where he was sleeping or where he was. EMS personnel evaluated the man and concluded that he was intoxicated, but not in need of medical attention. Our officers placed him under arrest for Public Intoxication. Occurred on 10/15/16 at 4:34 a.m. ALMETRIS DUREN HALL, 2624 Whitis Avenue Theft: A UT student reported that his bicycle was stolen from the rack outside this location. The vehicle passed a traffic island, police checkpoint, several signs labeled “Closed to Through Traffic”, a marked police unit, and several officers who attempted to flag the vehicle down. Our officers stopped the vehicle and were able to detect the odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The driver stated that he did not see any of the signs and did not possess a valid driver's license. Our officers also located a “checklist” from a local drinking established in the driver's pocket, which was wet and indicated that the owner had consumed at least six beers. Our officers found probable cause to place the driver under arrest. Occurred on 10/15/16 at 7:53 p.m. 400 BLOCK OF E 20TH ST Public Intoxication: UTPD officers found a UT student lying on the ground while two people were attempting to pick her up. Officers stopped the group and had EMS evaluate the student. The medical staff stated that she did not need medical attention and our officers released the woman to her friends. Occurred on 10/15/16 at 7:14 p.m. AT&T CONFERENCE CENTER, 1900 University Avenue Public Intoxication: UTPD officers were dispatched to a medical call at this location. Our officers located a UT student who had a laceration on his face. The man first told officers that he was assaulted. Several bystanders informed our officers that the man fell out of a chair. At this point, another bystander told the man who quit answering our officers' questions. This made it difficult to find a sober person to assume care of the intoxicated person. Our officers were later able to find the man's parents, who agreed to assume care, custody, and control of him until he sobered up. Occurred on 10/15/16 at 10:46 p.m. 400 BLOCK OF E MLK JR BLVD Driving While Intoxicated: UTPD officers located a vehicle traveling with no headlights on at this location. When officers spoke to the non-UT driver they found that there was a strong odor of alcohol coming from the man. The driver was unable to complete the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests due to his level of intoxication and our officers placed him under arrest.
