Report for 10/31/2016

Campus Watch, Spooky Edition: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University Police Department Patrol Officers between Friday, 10/28/16 and Monday, 10/31/16. ***ADMIN MESSAGE: UTPD will be hosting a Coffee with a Cop event on 11/04/16 from 9am-12pm at the Starbucks located at 24th Street and San Antonio. Come meet the officers who serve where you live and work. No talking points, no agendas, just a chance to meet the officers who serve your community, ask them questions, or talk to them about your concerns. All are welcome. *** HARRY RANSOM CENTER, 300 West 21st Street Criminal Mischief: A UTPD Guard at this location heard a window break and checked the exterior of the building. He located a decorated window on the eastern side of the building that had been broken, but no one was found in the area. Investigators suspect a human agent, rather than poltergeists, since officers also located a rock nearby the broken window. Estimated repair cost: Unknown. Reported on 10/29/16 at 3:05 a.m. 2300 BLOCK OF GUADALUPE ST Public Intoxication: A UTPD officer noticed a man who appeared to have fallen over near a bus stop at this location. When the officer approached him, the man stood up suddenly but was clearly having difficulty dealing with the normal effects of gravity. When asked for his ID, the non-UT subject gave officers a credit card. While officers tried to find the man a sober ride home, he continuously yelled his address at them. This was somewhat less than helpful and officers placed the man under arrest. Occurred on 10/29/16 at 3:48 a.m. 2400 BLOCK OF WHITIS AVE Public Intoxication / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A patrolling UTPD officer noticed a male UT student decorating the sidewalk with the contents of his stomach. When the man noticed the officer stopping to check on him, he attempted to run away. He ran less than a block before he was unable to continue fleeing from the officers. Officers determined that the man's stumbling gait was due to his level of intoxication and that he was not in fact Frankenstein's monster. The man was released to a sober, responsible adult. Occurred on 10/29/16 at 2:46 a.m. MOORE-HILL DORMITORY, 214 East 21st Street Public Intoxication / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (x3): A UTPD officer noticed four people leave this location and climb over the service wall that leads down into Waller Creek. The officer followed the four UT students to warn them that this was not a safe place to go. When the officer found them, it became immediately apparent that only one of the students was sober. One female student in particular appeared to be having trouble standing unassisted. When the officer asked her if she needed medical assistance, she responded by doing an impressive impersonation of a scene from The Exorcist. The other students mentioned that they had been drinking mixed drinks made with grain alcohol at a party. Officers were able to locate a sober adult to assume care, custody, and control of the intoxicated student. Occurred on 10/29/16 at 3:09 a.m. DARRELL K ROYAL MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2139 San Jacinto Boulevard Public Intoxication: Officers noticed a man who appeared to have over-indulged in alcoholic beverages at a local sporting event. The man was observed throwing objects over the railing towards the field and was stopped from doing so by officers. The non-UT subject was determined to be a danger to himself and others and placed under arrest. Occurred on 10/29/16 at 5:20 p.m. DARRELL K ROYAL MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2139 San Jacinto Boulevard Public Intoxication: UTPD officers responded to a report of a disturbance during a sporting contest at this location. When they arrived, they saw a man pull down his shorts and underwear and expose his naked rear end to the stands. Officers detained this man and determined that he was a danger to himself and others due to his level of intoxication. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the man was not in fact, a werewolf, which might have accounted for removing his clothing in order to transform. Occurred on 10/29/16 at 5:48 p.m. JOHNSON WILDFLOWER CENTER, 4801 La Crosse Avenue Driving While Intoxicated: A UTPD guard noticed a vehicle traveling in an area that was not designed for vehicular traffic inside this facility. The guard followed the vehicle for quite some time, trying to get the driver to stop damaging the property. Eventually the non-UT driver lodged is vehicle onto a large rock and was unable to continue driving. The guard then asked for the keys to the car so that he could prevent the man from further damaging his vehicle or UT property. The passenger made several disparaging remarks about the guard's profession before officers arrived. After conducting Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, officers determined that the erratic driving was due to the driver's level of intoxication and not a Maximum Overdrive scenario. Estimated property damage: Unknown. Occurred on 10/30/16 at 12:25 a.m. 2200 BLOCK OF RED RIVER ST Public Intoxication: A UTPD officer found a non-UT subject who fell several times while trying to cross the street. The officer stopped the man and determined that he was a danger to himself based on his level of intoxication. The man was able to contact his mummy (Yes, that was a pun. I'll just see myself out...), who agreed to assume care, custody, and control of him until he sobered up. Occurred on 10/30/16 at 4:58 a.m. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 60 Alarm Reports, 10 Traffic Violations, 34 Suspicious Activity Reports, 6 Welfare Concerns, 5 Medical Emergencies, 5 Motor Vehicle Collisions, 5 Assist Other Law Enforcement Agency Requests, 9 Foot Patrols, 10 Public Assists, and 5 Police “Emergency Help” Callbox Activations between 10/28/16 and 10/31/16.
