Report for 11/02/2016

Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University Police Department Patrol Officers between Tuesday, 11/01/16 and Wednesday, 11/02/16. ***ADMIN MESSAGE: UTPD will be hosting a Coffee with a Cop event on 11/04/16 from 9am-12pm at the Starbucks located at 24th Street and San Antonio. Come meet the officers who serve where you live and work. No talking points, no agendas, just a chance to meet the officers who serve your community, ask them questions, or talk to them about your concerns. All are welcome. *** 110 BLOCK OF EAST 24TH ST Criminal Trespass / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A UPD officer noticed a person behaving oddly near this location. Upon further inspection, the officer saw that the non-UT subject was smoking something while attempting to shield the item from view. This combination of behaviors resulted in what appeared to be a new form of breakdancing while in a seated position. The officer then realized that he recognized the man as someone who had previously received a written criminal trespass warning from all UT property. The officer placed the man under arrest and found that he had several items of drug paraphernalia in his possession. Occurred on 11/01/16 at 8:05 p.m. 2000 BLOCK OF UNIVERSITY AVE Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: UTPD officers responded to a call for medical assistance at an off-campus multi-story dwelling. Officers and EMS were able to locate a UT student who was in need of medical attention. The student, who was under the age of 21, was transported to local hospital for treatment related to alcohol poisoning. No charges were filed under the Medical Amnesty Act. Occurred on 11/02/16 at 12:05 a.m. 2200 BLOCK OF ROBERT DEDMAN DR Public Intoxication: A patrolling UTPD officer noticed a man lying on the side of the road near this location. When the officer approached the UT student, he stood up and attempted to walk away several times. Unfortunately, he was trying to do so while walking uphill and his state of inebriation made this a very difficult task. The man fell several times into the grass before the officer could get him to stop. While talking to the man, officers learned that he had already walked an impressive distance of at least 18 city blocks before finding himself unable to continue. Fortunately for him, he chose to stop in the lawn of a local police station, and our officer was able to locate a sober, responsible adult to assume care, custody, and control of the man until he sobered up. Occurred on 11/02/16 at 2:04 a.m. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 22 Alarm Reports, 5 Traffic Violations, 1 Suspicious Activity Report, 6 Welfare Concerns, 2 Assist Other Law Enforcement Agency Requests, 5 Foot Patrols, and 3 Public Assists between 11/01/16 and 11/02/16.
