The unknown motorist did approximately $1,000 worth of damage. Occurred on 11/10/16 at 8:36 p.m. ALMETRIUS DUREN HALL, 2624 Whitis Avenue Theft: A UT student reported that his bicycle was stolen from a bicycle rack outside this location. The bicycle had been secured with a cable lock, which was not recovered. Estimated loss value: $400. Reported on 11/19/16 at 1:02 p.m. KINSOLVING HALL DORMITORY, 2605 Whitis Avenue Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UTPD officer noticed a woman lying on a nearby curb who was sharing the recent contents of her stomach with the asphalt. The officer stopped to check on the UT student when another student approached. The other student was sober and attempting to get the intoxicated student home. No charges were filed and the student was released to her sober friend. Occurred on 11/20/16 at 12:34 a.m. 200 W BLOCK OF DEAN KEETON ST Driving While Intoxicated / Driving While License Invalid: A UTPD was patrolling this area in a marked police car when a driver failed to yield the right of way and almost struck the police car. Our officer stopped the vehicle and approached the driver who immediately informed the officer that she was drunk. The non-UT driver seemed intent on demonstrating the veracity of the saying, “In vino veritas,” as she repeatedly informed the officer that she was intoxicated. The officer got the woman to exit her vehicle and attempted to administer Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. The woman refused by repeatedly insisting the officer place her under arrest. The officer granted her request and learned that the woman had previous convictions for this very offense, which made this a felony arrest. The woman also did not have a driver's license due to the number of times she had been convicted for Driving While Intoxicated, so the officer placed her under arrest for that charge as well. Occurred on 11/20/16 at 2:12 a.m. KINSOLVING HALL DORMITORY, 2605 Whitis Avenue Public Intoxication / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UTPD officer driving by this location saw two UT students in an amorous embrace. This would normally not be enough to warrant police action but as the officer passed by, the students fell off the bench they were sitting on. The officer stopped to make sure that no one was injured and discovered that both had been drinking. Not only that, but both had consumed enough alcohol to have difficulty standing unassisted. The officer then attempted to find separate sober parties that she could release the students to. The officer was forced to place one student under arrest for Public Intoxication when she was not able to locate a sober adult to take care of the intoxicated student. The other student was released with a citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on 11/20/16 at 3:05 a.m. 700 BLOCK OF E DEAN KEETON ST Public Intoxication: A UTPD officer noticed a non-UT subject walking in this area who appeared to have difficulty resisting the gravitational pull of the earth. When the officer approached the man, he fell to the ground. Once the officer determined that the man did not need medical attention, she attempted to find him a sober ride home. The officer was able to locate a sober, responsible adult who agreed to assume care, custody, and control of the man until he sobered up. Occurred on 11/20/16 at 1:35 a.m. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 71 Alarm Reports, 28 Traffic Violations, 14 Suspicious Activity Reports, 5 Assist Other Law Enforcement Agency Requests, 1 Welfare Concern, 3 Foot Patrols, 6 Found Property Reports, 9 Medical Emergencies, and 6 Public Assists between 11/18/16 and 11/21/16.
