Voting ends on December 9th, and we'll publish your rankings the following week. *** WELCH HALL, 105 East 24th Street Theft: A UT faculty member reported that an unattended laptop was stolen from an open office. Estimated loss value: $1,500. Reported on 12/01/16 at 9:50 a.m. MAIN BUILDING, 110 Inner Campus Drive False Alarm or Report / Criminal Mischief / Theft: UTPD officers responded to a report of a fire alarm at the Main Building. An officer who was helping to evacuate the building noticed a woman on the first floor wearing personal protective equipment. That officer because suspicious of the woman when she discharged a fire extinguisher at objects that were not on fire. Officers detained the woman and asked her what she was doing. She explained that she tampered with the fire system and was spraying the fire extinguisher so that she “would be taken seriously.†The officers seriously placed her under arrest for activating the fire system with no actual emergency, stealing personal protective equipment, and damaging university property with a fire extinguisher. Occurred on 12/01/16 at 5:19 p.m. ***CRIME PREVENTION TIP: While entries like the one above can be amusing, the end of the semester is a very stressful time for our community. You can use the following links to access some of those resources: Counseling and Mental Center, Employee Assistance Program, Behavior Concerns Advice Line. *** 700 BLOCK OF E MLK BLVD Public Intoxication: A patrolling UTPD officer noticed a man who was slowly but surely losing his struggle to resist the gravitational pull of the earth. When the officer spoke with the man, he learned that the UT student was trying to return to his apartment in west campus. When the officer asked the man how he was going to get home, the man simply pointed due east. The officer was unable to locate a sober party to help the man and so he placed him under arrest. Occurred on 12/02/16 at 3:33 a.m. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 24 Alarm Reports, 5 Traffic Violations, 6 Suspicious Activity Reports, 4 Foot Patrols, 1 Found Property Report, 1 Welfare Concern, 1 Assist Other Law Enforcement Agency Request, 3 Medical Emergencies, 2 Police “Emergency Help†Callbox Activations, and 3 Public Assists between 12/01/16 and 12/02/16 Today's Campus Watch was prepared by: Officer R.
