Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University Police Department Patrol Officers between 06:00 am Monday, 12/12/16 and 06:00 am Wednesday, 12/14/16. T.S. Painter Hall, 103 W. 24th Street Theft: A UT staff member reported that a mini-fridge was stolen from an office area. While the loss of the mini-fridge is valued at $100.00, the toll of all those ruined lunches is immeasurable. Occurred between 12:00 am on 10/20/16 and 11:59 pm on 10/24/2016. Jester Academic Building, 201 E. 21st Street Criminal Mischief: A UT staff member reported that a soap dispenser was torn from the wall in a men's rest room. As a consequence of this act, germs are sure to be running amok. The cost of replacing soap dispenser is estimated to be $100.00. Reported on 12/13/16 at 12:18 pm. University of Texas Administrative Building, 1616 Guadalupe Theft/ Unlawful Use of Criminal Instrument/ Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: Enterprising UTPD officers interrupted the theft of a bicycle from the UTA building. A search incidental to arrest of the would-be thief revealed burglary tools and drug paraphernalia on their person. In the spirit of the season, the responding officers gave the individual a free ride to Travis County Central Booking. Occurred on 12/13/2016 at 11:24 am. Gregory Gymnasium, 2101 Speedway Theft: A UT student reported that their bicycle was stolen from a bike rack near Gregory Gym. Estimated loss: $400.00. Reported on 12/13/2016 at 9:05 pm. Crime Prevention Tip: Use a solid U-shaped lock with a flat key in combination with a self-locking cable through the frame of your bicycle to deter theft. 2600 Block of Speedway (Not UT Property) Criminal Mischief: An alert UTPD Officer observed an individual give a nearby pedestrian crosswalk sign a “high five.” The power of the “high five” damaged the innocent crosswalk sign. When the officer spoke with the individual, the power-fiver stated that they did it because they thought “it would be fun.” The associated criminal charge will not be fun, I assure you. Estimated cost of replacement: $50.00. Occurred on 12/13/2016 at 10:20 pm. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 23 Alarm Reports, 4 Suspicious Activity Reports, 5 Traffic Violations, 4 Welfare Concerns, 8 Foot Patrol, 3 Medical Emergencies, and 8 Public Assists between 12/12/16 and 12/14/16.
