Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University of Texas At Austin Police Department Patrol Officers between Friday, 01/13/17 and Tuesday, 01/17/17. 1300 E. Martin Luther King Boulevard Public Intoxication/Possession of Illegal Substance Penalty Group 2A: UTPD Officers responded to a report of an intoxicated male on the side of the road. When officers located the man, they recognized classic signs of alcohol intoxication. They also observed the man was holding a hand rolled cigarette. That cigarette contained a small amount of synthetic cannabinoid known as “K2.” The man was taken into custody and transported to Travis County Central Booking. Occurred on 01/13/17 at 5:44pm. Belmont Hall 2109 San Jacinto Blvd Public Intoxication: UTPD officers responded to a report of a possibly intoxicated man “hiding under the stadium.” When they arrived, they located the male and observed that he was exhibiting symptoms of alcohol intoxication. Further, the gentleman confirmed that he had been drinking and wanted to sleep inside the stadium. While he was not allowed to sleep in the stadium, officers found him a place to sleep at Travis County Central Booking. Occurred on 01/13/17 at 09:53 pm. J.T. Patterson Labs Building 2415 Speedway Public Intoxication/Criminal Trespass Warning: UTPD Officers responded to a report of a naked man trying to break into the Patterson Labs building. When officers arrived, they located a gentleman holding a pair of underpants tugging on the door to the building. Much to the surprise of the responding officers, the man was mostly clothed. Not surprisingly, he was emanating a strong odor of alcohol. The man could not identify the current year or his current location. Officers quickly determined the man was intoxicated to the point of being a danger to himself or others. He was transported to Travis County Central Booking, charged with Public Intoxication and given a shiny new criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 01/13/2017 at 10:56 pm. 1800 Brazos Street (Not-UT Property) Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A Patrolling UTPD Officer observed a vehicle make an unsafe and illegal turn. The officer then initiated a traffic stop. While speaking with the driver, the officer detected a strong odor of marijuana. A search of the vehicle yielded drug paraphernalia and a small amount of marijuana. The driver was issued a citation and released from the scene. Occurred on 01/13/17 at 11:35 pm. Officer Murphy's Pro-Tip: Stop trying to hide the smell of your drugs from the police. All you get is marijuana with a hint of dryer sheets and body spray. It's embarrassing for the illegal drug enthusiasts and the police. However, the best advice is to not possess or use illegal drugs. Possession of any usable amount of marijuana is still a Class B Misdemeanor in the State of Texas. O'Henry Hall 601 Colorado Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT staff member located an individual sleeping on the ground near O'Henry Hall. Further, the sleepy fellow was asked to leave but refused to do so. UTPD Officers responded and issued the person a criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 01/14/2017 at 05:05 am. San Antonio Garage 2420 San Antonio Street Criminal Mischief: A UTPD officer discovered a poster glued to an exterior wall of the San Antonio Garage. The estimated cost to remove the glue and poster is $100.00. Discovered on 01/14/2017 at 08:44 am. San Antonio Garage 2420 San Antonio Street Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A UTPD officer observed a suspicious vehicle parked inside the San Antonio Garage. When the officer approached the vehicle, he observed two occupants and the unmistakable smell of burning marijuana. During a search of the vehicle, the officers located several items used for the consumption of drugs as well as a small amount of marijuana. Both individuals were issued a citation for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Occurred on 01/15/17 at 01:17 am. 2500 Whitis Avenue Public Intoxication: A patrolling UTPD Officer observed that an individual was passed out on a bench in the 2500 block of Whitis. After waking the sleeper, the officer recognized signs of alcohol intoxication. Officers noted that his clothes were “soiled.” The man told officers that he had “too much” to drink at a downtown Austin bar. A significant clue to his level of intoxication was the fact that he did not know where he was and was unable to explain how to get home from that location. Officers determined that the man was likely a danger to himself based on his level of intoxication. He was transported to Travis County Central Booking and charged with public intoxication. Occurred on 01/16/2017 at 12:43 am. Health Learning Building 1501 Red River Street Criminal Trespass Warning: UTPD Officers were dispatched to the Health Learning Building in response to a report of an unauthorized individual trying to enter the building. Officers located the individual and confirmed that he was, in fact, unauthorized to be in the building. The gentleman was issued a criminal trespass warning and sent on his way. Occurred on 01/16/2017 at 01:35 am. San Antonio Garage 2420 San Antonio Street Criminal Mischief: A UTPD officer discovered that one of the gate arms at San Antonio Garage was damaged. The estimated cost of repair is $50.00. Discovered on 01/16/17 at 07:01 am. 2300 Guadalupe Street (Non UT Property) Possession of Drug Paraphernalia/Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility: A UTPD Officer observed a vehicle execute an unlawful left turn. The officer then initiated a traffic stop. While speaking with the driver, officers were able to see what they knew to be drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. The officers began a search which yielded even more drug related items. The officers tested residue found on the items and determined that the items were used to ingest heroin. To add insult to injury, the driver did not have liability insurance for their vehicle. The vehicle was towed away, the paraphernalia was seized and the driver was issued two citations.
