Administrative Note: You may have noticed an interruption to the Campus Watch. Worry not! The Community Outreach Unit at UTPD is in a state of transition and you may see additional interruptions to the Campus Watch. We expect to be back to normal by 02/13/2017. Thank you! Communications Building B 2504-B Whitis Avenue Theft: A bicycle belonging to The University of Texas at Austin was removed from a bicycle rack at CMB. Creekside Residence Hall 2501 San Jacinto Blvd Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: UTPD officers were dispatched to the dormitory in response to a report of the smell of burning marijuana. Officers were easily able to track the smell to its source. Inside they found two UT students and drug paraphernalia. UT Officers seized the paraphernalia for destruction. The case was administratively cleared. Occurred on 01/27/2017 at 09:05 pm. Officer Murphy's Pro-Tip: Really, we don't know why people try to smoke marijuana in the dorms. No amount of towels under the door stops that smell from seeping into the hallway. The overpowering smell of body spray and disinfectants after we knock on the door is a dead giveaway too. 2300 Guadalupe Street (Non-UT Property) Possession of Marijuana (Less than 2oz): A UTPD officer on foot patrol observed two men smoking marijuana in the Renaissance Market area (once again, the smell was a dead giveaway). The gentlemen apologized to the officers for smoking the marijuana and were very nice about the whole thing. They even gave the rest of the marijuana to the officers. The officers submitted the remaining marijuana for destruction. No charges were filed. Occurred on 01/27/2017 at 08:00 pm. 400 E. 23rd Street Driving While Intoxicated: UTPD officers were flagged down by a citizen who reported that her parked car (which was red and that becomes important later in the story) was struck by a white car. Officers quickly located the striking vehicle. The vehicle was partially over the curb and had red paint transfer damage. The responding officers were not detectives but we call those kinds of things “clues.” Additional clues included several bottles of liquor and still more that were sealed. The officers interviewed the driver and determined, after the usual tests, that he was driving under the influence. He was fitted with new bracelets and spirited away to Travis County Central Booking. Conference Center Garage 1900 University Avenue Public Intoxication/Possession of Marijuana (Less than 2oz): UTPD officers were summoned to the garage in response to a report of a suspicious person. Officers quickly located the gentleman sitting in his vehicle. While interviewing the man, officers were able to identify the smell of fresh marijuana emanating from inside the vehicle. The officers also observed that the fellow exhibited symptoms of alcohol intoxication. Officers determined that the gentleman was likely a danger to himself or others based on his level of intoxication. He was taken into custody and transported to Travis County Central Booking. An inventory of the vehicle yielded a small amount of marijuana. Occurred on 01/28/2017 at 12:04 am. Sid Richardson Hall 2300 Red River Graffiti: A patrolling UTPD officer discovered graffiti inside the building. The estimated cost to remove the graffiti is $100.00. Blanton Residence Hall 2500 University Consumption of Alcohol By a Minor: UTPD officers were dispatched to the residence hall in regards to a report of someone who was vomiting and “beyond intoxicated.” Officers reported that the young woman was barely conscious and was mumbling incoherently. Guadalupe Garage 417 W. 7th Street Assist Other Law Enforcement Agency: A UTPD officer found four people sleeping in a stairwell in the garage. Officers determined that he was highly intoxicated but were able to locate a sober friend to take custody of the man. No charges were filed. Occurred on 01/29/2017 at 04:30 am. Whitaker Intramural Fields 4901 Guadalupe Street Criminal Mischief: A UTPD officer discovered that chain securing an entry gate was cut. The estimated cost of replacing the chain is $5.00. Discovered on 01/29/2017 at 11:38 am. Parking Lot 37 2200 Red River Street Public Intoxication: An alert UTPD Security Guard observed a man punching a vehicle in the parking lot. UTPD officers quickly located and detained the man. The man emphatically denied punching the vehicle but officers found a hand print on the car that indicated otherwise.
