Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University of Texas At Austin Police Department Patrol Officers between Friday 02/10/17 and Monday 02/13/17. Communication Building B 2504-B Whitis Avenue Graffiti: A UT staff member reported that someone without a sense of common courtesy defaced a bathroom mirror inside CMB. The estimated cost to remove the graffiti is $20.00. Reported on 02/10/17 at 07:44 am. Brackenridge Residence Hall 207 E. 21st Street Theft: A UT student reported that a thief had pilfered his bicycle from a bike rack outside the residence hall. The estimated cost to replace the bicycle is $200.00. Reported on 02/10/17 at 10:15 am. 200 Block of Inner Campus Drive Criminal Trespass/ Public Intoxication: UTPD officers responded to a report of a suspicious person on the steps of the Main Mall. Officers were able to easily locate the gentleman as he was the only highly intoxicated man in the area. Officers observed that all of the man's possessions were contained in a heat sealed plastic bag. That bag contained his release documents from the local jail. Officers determined that he had been released from Travis County Jail just a matter of hours before. Our good friends at the Austin Police Department had arrested him the prior night for (you guessed it) Public Intoxication. Additionally, the man was found to have a previous criminal trespass warning from all UT locations. Officers reasoned that the fellow must have missed being in jail so they were gracious enough to bring him right back to the lockup where he was welcomed by deputies. Occurred on 02/10/17 at 11:02 am. Gregory Gymnasium 2101 Speedway Theft: A UT student reported that a pair of her shoes had been stolen from inside the women's locker room. The estimated cost to replace the shoes is $75.00 Reported on 02/10/17 at 09:12 pm. Clark Field 307 E. 21st Street Theft: A person (non-UT affiliated) reported that their bag containing several items was stolen from the bleachers at Clark Field. Reported on 02/10/17 at 09:21 pm. Crime Prevention Tip: Criminals strike wherever they are given an opportunity! Never leave your property unsecured – not even for an instant! 1200 Block of Guadalupe Street Possession of Marijuana (Less than 2oz)/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A UTPD officer observed a vehicle driving erratically. The officer initiated a traffic stop and spoke with the driver. The officers were able to detect the unmistakable odor of marijuana emanating from the car. A search of the car yielded a useable amount of marijuana and several items used for it's ingestion. Surprisingly, one of the passengers admitted to the officers that all of the drugs and paraphernalia were his. Honest Abe was issued a citation and released from the scene. Occurred on 02/10/17 at 10:08 pm. Creekside Residence Hall 2501 San Jacinto Boulevard Consumption of Alcohol By a Minor: UTPD officers were summoned to the residence hall in response to a report of a highly intoxicated individual. Officers located the gentleman who advised officers that he had consumed “one or two or three or four or five” alcoholic beverages. He also told officers that he was under the legal drinking age in Texas. The intoxicated fellow then thanked the officers for their service, retrieved his cellular telephone and took a photo using the social media app Snapchat to document the occasion. The gentleman was evaluated by EMS and ultimately released from the scene. The case was administratively cleared. Occurred on 02/11/17 at 02:40 am. 1500 Block of N. IH-35 Frontage Road Driving While License Invalid/Operation of Vehicle with Expired License Plate/Assist Other Law Enforcement Agency: A UTPD officer observed a vehicle with expired license plates on the I-35 Frontage Road. Officers confirmed the plates were expired and then initiated a traffic stop. The officer identified the driver and determined that his license was invalid and that he had a current arrest warrant for another traffic offense. Additionally, the driver was found to have prior convictions for driving while license invalid. Officers took the driver into custody and transported him to Travis County Central Booking. Occurred on 02/11/17 at 02:40 am. Clark Field 307 E. 21st Street Theft: A bicycle belonging to The University of Texas at Austin was removed from a bike rack at Clark Field. UTPD Communications Operators were easily able to track the movements of the would-be thief and relayed that information to officers. Responding officers quickly located the bicycle and detained the rider. The rider explained to officers that he had lawfully purchased the bicycle weeks ago. Since the officers knew that to be a poor excuse for a lie, they took the offender into custody. The crook was transported to Travis County Central Booking. Occurred on 02/11/17 at 04:41 am. San Antonio Garage 2420 San Antonio Street Graffiti: A UTPD Officer discovered fresh graffiti on an exterior wall at the parking garage. The estimated cost of removing the graffiti is $50.00. Discovered on 02/11/17 at 11:20 am. Parking Lot 114 2200 Leona Street Burglary of Automobile: A UT student discovered that her vehicle had been broken into while she was away. The burglar broke out one of the vehicle's windows and damaged one of the doors. No items were taken from the vehicle. Estimated loss: $500.00. Reported on 02/11/17 at 2:30 pm. 1900 Block of Guadalupe Street Driving While License Invalid: A UTPD officer observed a motor vehicle with an expired license plate in the 1900 block of Guadalupe Street. The officer initiated the stop and identified the driver. The officer quickly determined that the driver had a suspended driver's license. Further, the driver was unable to provide proof of current liability insurance. The driver was issued a citation and his vehicle was impounded. Occurred on 02/11/2017 at 08:15 pm. Union Building 2308 Whitis Avenue Criminal Trespass Warning: UTPD officers were dispatched to the exterior of the Union Building in regards to a report of a male who was acting erratically and following a female student. Officer quickly located the individual, identified him and issued him a criminal trespass warning before ejecting him from the Campus. Occurred on 02/11/2017 at 10:00 pm. 2600 Block of Witchita Street Assist Other Law Enforcement Agency: A UTPD officer observed a vehicle operating without headlamps when required. The officer initiated a traffic stop and found that the driver had two drug related warrants for his arrest. The driver was taken into custody and transported to Travis County Central Booking. He will be extradited to Williamson County for a hearing related regarding the arrest warrants. Occurred on 02/11/2017 at 10:53 pm. 3000 Block of Guadalupe Street Driving While Intoxicated: A UTPD officer observed a vehicle traveling without illuminated headlamps when required. The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop but the vehicle did not stop. The vehicle made several erratic turns before decelerating to approximately five miles per hour for about one block. The vehicle then moved slowly into a nearby parking lot. As the officer exited his patrol vehicle, he observed that the driver of the other vehicle was attempting to back up. The officer realized that he was in danger and began to shout commands at the driver. The officer approached the vehicle and ordered the driver to put the vehicle in park. The driver appeared to be having great difficulty and he fumbled helplessly inside the vehicle. The officer recognized signs of intoxication and took the driver into custody. A search of the vehicle yielded an open container of alcohol. The driver was transported to Travis County Central Booking. Occurred on 02/12/17 at 04:18 am. Guadalupe Garage 417 W17th Street Criminal Trespass: A UTPD Officer observed a suspicious male inside the Guadalupe Parking Garage. The officer identified the man and determined that he had been issued a prior criminal trespass warning. The offender was taken into custody and transported to Travis County Central Booking. Occurred on 02/12/17 at 08:06 am. AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center 1900 University Criminal Mischief: UTPD officers responded to the AT&T center in regards to a report of patrons who refused to pay for their hotel room. When officers arrived, they quickly learned that the situation was more complicated than they had presumed. Staff advised the officers that the patrons had caused extensive damage to the room and were refusing to pay. Officers were able to locate and identify all of the individuals involved in the dispute. After being located, the offenders told the officers a series of tall tales regarding their night in the room. The officers were unimpressed by the constantly changing collection of lies and informed everyone that they would be charged with Criminal Mischief. Reported on 02/12/17 at 10:29 am. 2400 Block of Nueces Public Intoxication: A proactive UTPD officer located a male lying on the sidewalk near the International Office. The gentleman told the officer that he had been “drinking all day and shooting dope” and requested an ambulance. The man told officers that by “dope” he was referring to Heroin. He was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. No charges will be filed. Occurred on 02/12/17 at 04:17 pm Parking Lot 114 2200 Burglary of Automobile: A UT student reported that someone had broken one of her vehicle's windows and rummaged through her belongings. No items were missing. The estimated cost of replacing the broken in window is $200.00. Reported on 02/12/17 at 06:44 pm. The University of Texas at Austin Police Department responded to 53 Alarm Reports, 39 Traffic Violations, 3 Foot Patrols, 4 Suspicious Activity Reports, 2 Medical Emergency and 30 Public Assists between Friday 02/10/17 and Monday 02/13/17.
