Whitaker Sports Complex 4901 Guadalupe Street Burglary: A UT staff member reported that a trailer containing sports equipment had been broken into. Several items were taken from inside. The estimated cost to replace the items and repair the door is $280.00. Reported on 02/09/17 at 08:34 am. Student Services Building 100 W. Dean Keeton Street Theft: A UT Student that his bicycle was stolen from a bike rack outside of the Student Services Building. The bicycle was secured by a chain and combination lock. The estimated cost to replace the bicycle is $100.00. Reported on 02/09/2017 at 10:02 pm. 2800 Whitis Public Intoxication: UTPD officers were summoned to the area of 2800 Whitis in regards to a report of a man lying on the ground. The reporting person believed that the man was not breathing. Officers quickly located the man and observed signs of alcohol intoxication. While the man was able to proficiently swear at officers, he was unaware of his current location and was unable to walk without assistance. The gentleman was taken into custody, charged with Public Intoxication and transported to Travis County Central Booking. Occurred on 02/09/17 at 10:45 pm. 2800 Rio Grande Public Intoxication: A patrolling UTPD officer observed a gentleman urinating in public near the roadway. The officer had time to turn his police car around, park and approach the offender who was still in the process of urination. When the officer announced his presence to the gentleman, he hastily finished his business and in the process the man soiled himself. The officer quickly surmised that Mr. Tinkle-in-Public was intoxicated. Despite the keen observation of the officer, the man insisted that he had not been urinating in public. Further, he was unable to describe his location. The gentleman was ultimately released to a sober friend. Occurred on 02/10/17 at 02:53 am. 2300 San Gabriel Driving While License Invalid/Failure to Identify: A UTPD officer observed a moped with two riders driving erratically. The violations committed by the driver of this particular moped include but are not limited to: crossing the center yellow line, failing to signal a lane change and failing to stop at a stop sign. The officer said to himself “hey I should probably initiate a traffic stop” and subsequently did just that. The officer requested identification of the driver and observed signs of alcohol intoxication from both riders. The driver handed the officer a Texas driver's license. That license indicated that the driver was over the age of 21. The officer then asked the driver to perform the standard tests. She complied but performed very poorly as you might imagine. The officer then took the driver into custody. Immediately after the steel bracelets were applied to the driver's wrists, she had a change of heart. She advised the officer that the driver's license she gave to the officer belonged to a friend who was not on scene. She was unable to state why she decided to lie to the officer but we suspect it had something to do with her being under the legal drinking age. During a search of the driver's property, officers found a fake identification card. The driver was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Failure to Identify. She was spirited away to Travis County Central Booking and her moped was impounded. Occurred on 02/10/17 at 03:17 am. The University of Texas at Austin Police Department responded to 10 Alarm Reports, 1, 911 Hang Up, 24 Traffic Violations, 2 Foot Patrols, 4 Suspicious Activity Reports, 1 Medical Emergency and 10 Public Assists between Thursday 02/09/17 and Friday 02/10/17.
