Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University of Texas At Austin Police Department Patrol Officers between Thursday 03/02/17 and Monday 03/06/17. ****Safety Alert**** By now, many of you have been made aware of the recent sexual assault in West Campus. While this assault occurred off campus, we'd like to make you aware of some tips so that you can #BeSafe. Remember to avoid dimly lit areas, walk in groups, be aware of your surroundings and call 911 whenever you feel threatened. If you'd like someone to walk with you through campus, call SURE Walk at 512-232- 9255 or email them at orderasurewalk@gmail.com. Visit the SURE Walk website for more information at http://utsg.org/projects/sure-walk/ . If you feel unsafe, you can contact UTPD at 512-471-4441 and ask for after-hours transportation. A uniformed security guard in a marked vehicle will give you a safe ride to your location. UTPD provides this service 7 days a week from 8pm-2am as long as the University is operational. Ernest Cockrell Jr. Hall 301 E. Dean Keeton Theft: A UT student reported that his bicycle seat had been stolen from his bicycle. The cost of replacing the seat and post is estimated to be $150.00. Reported on 03/02/17 at 4:25 pm. 600 Block of W. 6th Street Driving While Intoxicated/Driving While License Invalid: A UTPD officer observed a vehicle run a red light before pulling into a nearby diner parking lot. The officer stopped the vehicle and observed that the driver was exhibiting several signs of intoxication. When asked for his driver's license, he fumbled through several credit cards before handing his license to the officer. The driver claimed to be able to produce proof of insurance using an app on his phone. However, the man experienced great difficulty operating the cell phone. Officers administered the usual tests before arriving at the conclusion that the man was under the influence. He was taken into custody and transported to Travis County Central Booking. Officers determined that the man had been previously convicted of Driving While Intoxicated and found that his license was suspended. Reported on 03/03/17 at 01:34 am. Whitaker Intermural Fields 4901 Guadalupe Street Graffiti: A UT staff member reported that two light poles were marked with graffiti. The estimated cost to remove the graffiti is $50.00. Reported on 03/03/17 at 9:13 am. 2300 Block of San Antonio Street Possession of Substance in Penalty Group 3/Assist Other Law Enforcement Agency: A UTPD officer observed a vehicle displaying registration that had been expired for nearly a year. The officer stopped the vehicle and identified the driver. The driver quickly determined that the driver had a warrant for her arrest for Driving While License Invalid. The driver was then taken into custody. A search yielded one Xanax pill and a yet unidentified little blue pill. The driver did not have a prescription for the Xanax. Possession of the pill without a prescription is an offense. The driver was transported to Travis County Central Booking. Occurred on 03/03/17 at 5:52 pm. Performing Arts Center 510 E. 23rd Street Criminal Trespass/Resisting Arrest, Search or Transportation: After the conclusion of an event, a UT staff member asked a group of individuals to leave the building. The group strongly rebuked the staff member who then asked for assistance from UTPD. The officers ordered the individuals to leave approximately eight times. Despite all of these warnings, one woman from the group refused to leave the area. The officer warned that she would be placed under arrest and charged with an offense if she did not comply. The woman still refused to leave. Officers then attempted to take the woman into custody. While attempting to place the woman in her handcuffs, the woman actively resisted. She was ultimately taken into custody and transported to Travis County Central Booking. Occurred on 03/03/17 at 11:36 pm. Welch Hall 105 E. 24th Street Theft: A UT Staff Member reported that their bicycle had been stolen. The cost of replacing the bicycle is estimated to be $485.00. Reported on 03/04/17 at 1:05 pm. Perry-Castañeda Library 101 E. 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A UTPD Security Guard found a male sleeping in the library with no shoes on and questionable hygiene. Officers spoke with the man and determined that he was not affiliated with the University. Officers issued the man a Criminal Trespass Warning and ejected him from the campus. Occurred on 03/04/17 at 5:15 pm. Disch-Faulk Field 1300 E. Martin Luther King Drive Driving While Intoxicated/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A UTPD officer observed a vehicle drive in a bicycle lane before swerving back into the normal lane of traffic. The officer stopped the vehicle and detected the strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. The driver told the officer that he had been smoking marijuana. The officer then administered the usual tests. During those tests, the driver became confused and needed a great deal of assistance. The officer determined that the driver was impaired due to the ingestion of marijuana and took him into custody. A search of the vehicle yielded two pipes commonly used to smoke marijuana. Occurred on 03/05/17 at 12:11 am. 2200 Block of Rio Grande Street Public Intoxication: A UTPD officer observed a male who appeared to be having a great deal of difficulty standing up. The male then began to speak with a young woman who was obviously not interested in the conversation. Officers spoke to the man (who is well known to us) and observed common signs of alcohol intoxication. He was taken into custody and charged with public intoxication. Occurred on 03/05/17 at 5:03 pm. Department responded to 119 Alarm Reports, 50 Traffic Violations, 11 Foot Patrols, 11 Suspicious Activity Reports, 14 Medical Emergencies, 9 Assist Other Law Enforcement Agency Calls, and 32 Public Assists between Thursday 03/02/17 and Monday 03/06/17.
