Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University of Texas At Austin Police Department Patrol Officers between Monday 03/20/17 and Tuesday 03/21/17. ****Safety Alert**** Recently, UTPD has been notified of aggressive panhandlers operating near campus. These scam artists will often claim to be experiencing an emergency situation and will say they are in desperate need of cash. They have been known to pressure people into going to ATM machines and withdrawing cash. If you are approached by an aggressive panhandler, politely but firmly decline their request and quickly leave the area. Then, find a safe place and call the police to report the activity. Belmont Hall 2109 San Jacinto Boulevard (Attempted) Burglary of a Building: A UT staff member reported damage to her office door. The damage appeared to have been the result of an attempted unlawful entry. Officers determined that the offender did not succeed in their attempt to break into the room. Reported on 03/20/17 at 11:00 am. 1800 Block of Guadalupe Public Intoxication: A UTPD officer observed a man who was passed out in a planter box. The man had difficulty sitting up straight and smelled strongly of alcohol. The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Occurred on 03/20/17 at 03:30 pm. Health Center Garage Graffiti: A security guard located graffiti on an interior wall of the garage. The estimated cost to remove the graffiti is $100.00. Reported on 03/20/2017. Engineering Teaching Center 204 E. Dean Keeton Theft: A UT student reported that his bike had been stolen. The victim told officers that the bicycle was not locked to anything when it was stolen. The estimated cost to replace the bicycle is $50.00. Perry-Castañeda Library 101 E. 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A UTPD security guard reported that a male was causing a disturbance inside the library. Officers responded to the area and quickly located the suspect. Officers determined that the man was not affiliated with UT. They issued him a criminal trespass warning and ejected him from campus. Occurred on 03/20/17 at 9:00 pm. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 24 Alarm Reports, 1 911 hang up, 5 Traffic Violations, 3 Foot Patrols, 10 Suspicious Activity Reports, 1 Medical Emergency, 5 Assist Other Law Enforcement Agency Calls, and 16 Public Assists between Monday 03/20/17 and Tuesday 03/21/17.
