Report for 04/03/2017

Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University of Texas At Austin Police Department Patrol Officers between Thursday 03/30/17 and Monday 04/03/17. 2100 Block of Guadalupe Street Possession of Marijuana/Possession of Substance in Penalty Group 2: A UTPD officer observed an individual smoking marijuana in plain view on the sidewalk. Sometimes we don't even have to try. A search incidental to arrest yielded cocaine and an additional substance. The additional substance will require testing in a lab before charges can be filed. If I were a betting man, I'd bet the farm on those charges getting filed. Occurred on 03/30/17 at 09:43 am. Main Building 110 Inner Campus Drive Theft: A ladder belonging to UT was stolen from inside the building. The estimated cost of replacing the ladder is $200.00. Lot 115 1600 E. 20th Street Burglary of Motor Vehicle: Two parked and unattended vehicles were broken into and items were stolen from within. The investigation is ongoing. Reported on 03/30/17 on 3:43 pm. Will C. Hogg Hall 120 Inner Campus Drive Theft: A UT student reported that her bike was stolen from a rack near the building. The bike was locked to the rack. Reported on 03/30/17 at 7:43 pm. Mike Myer Stadium 707 Clyde Littlefield Theft: An athlete competing in the Texas Relays reported that his bag containing shoes and a watch was stolen. The bag was unattended at the time of the theft. Reported on 03/30/17 at 9:30 pm. 400 Block of W. 21st Street Attempted Robbery: A UT student reported that she was approached by a man who attempted to “hug her.” The student refused the hug which agitated the man. The man demanded money from the student and told her to take him to an ATM. The suspect then tried to take the student's backpack and threatened her. The student was able to escape thanks to the timely intervention of a bystander. Approximately 20 minutes elapsed before UTPD was notified of the criminal activity. Officers thoroughly searched the area but given the delay, they were unable to find an offender. Almost an hour after the robbery occurred, a UTPD Assistant Chief and a Sergeant were inside a nearby coffee shop speaking with citizens. A man matching the description of the suspect entered the café. The Assistant Chief and Sergeant quickly detained the man. The victim was able to positively identify the man as the one who tried to rob her. He was transported to Travis County Central Booking. Occurred on 03/31/17 at 06:20 am. 200 Block of West 21st Street Assault: An employee of food truck in the area observed a male urinating in public near where patrons dine. The employee told the man that he could not urinate in that area. The man approached the employee, grabbed his arm and spat in his face. Officers quickly located the offender and took him into custody. He was transported to Travis County Central Booking. Occurred on 03/31/17 at 12:48 pm. San Antonio Garage 2420 San Antonio Street Graffiti: Graffiti was discovered on an exterior wall of the building. The cost to remove the writing is estimated to be $50.00. Discovered on 03/31/17 at 1:32 pm. Parlin Hall 208 W. 21st Street Theft: A seat was stolen from a bicycle that was parked near the building. The estimated cost of replacing the seat is $120.00. Reported on 03/31/17 at 5:15 pm. Brazos Garage 210 E. Martin Luther King Boulevard Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A UTPD officer found three UT students smoking marijuana on top of the parking garage in plain view. The officer detained and identified the students before seizing the pipe they were using to smoke. There was no useable amount of marijuana left. The case was administratively cleared. Occurred on 03/31/17 at 11:43 pm. 2100 Block of Speedway Criminal Mischief: A UT staff member reported that two males were walking down Speedway were removing parking and street signs from their posts. Officers quickly located the two and determined that one was a UT student and the other was unaffiliated with the university. The suspect who was not a UT student admitted to stealing the signs. He was issued a citation for criminal mischief and given a criminal trespass warning. All of the signs were recovered. Occurred on 04/01/17 at 01:08. Whitaker Sports Complex 4901 Guadalupe Burglary of a Motor Vehicle: A UT student reported that one of her vehicle's windows had been broken and items were taken from inside it. The estimated loss is $420.00. Reported on 04/01/17 at 5:24 pm. 2300 Block of Guadalupe Street Public Intoxication: A UTPD officer on foot patrol located a male who was passed out on the sidewalk. Officers observed that the man had urinated on himself. When the officer attempted to wake the man, he hurled a number of F-bombs (swear words-not actual bombs) at the officer and was verbally aggressive. Officers determined that the man was a good candidate for a stay at the local jail due to his level of intoxication. Occurred on 04/01/17 at 6:12 pm. Garrison Hall 128 Inner Campus Drive Public Intoxication: A UTPD officer entered the building and checked a men's bathroom inside. Inside a bathroom stall, he discovered what he believed to be a man and a woman engaging in what I'm going to call an “intimate encounter.” There was a pervasive smell of alcohol inside the room, as well as the sound of vomiting. The officer had to take a second to reconcile in his mind what he was observing. He ordered the occupants out of the stall. They complied. The female told officers that she did not understand why he was checking the bathroom. The officer explained that he was merely trying to use the restroom when he encountered this situation. During the investigation the female half of the encounter became aggressive towards officers and motioned as though she were going to strike them. She was taken into custody and charged with Public Intoxication. She would go on to tell officers that she was merely trying to have intercourse with her boyfriend in the bathroom (decorum prohibits me from relaying her actual quote). Occurred on 04/01/17 at 8:09 pm. 2300 Block of Pearl Street Assault: A UT student flagged down officers and reported that he had just been punched in the face. The victim reported that he happened upon a fight in progress in the area. When he tried to break it up, one of the participants punched the victim in the face. Occurred on 04/01/17 8:50 pm. Jester Residence Hall 201 E. 21st Street Theft: A UT student reported that her unattended IPhone had been stolen. The estimated cost of replacing the phone is $400.00. Reported on 04/01/17 at 10:55 pm. 1200 Block of S. I-35 Frontage Road Possession of Substance in Penalty Group 2A: A patrolling UTPD officer observed a vehicle hydroplane through an intersection before coming to a stop. The officer approached the vehicle and found the driver standing outside. The officer observed that there were baggies hanging out of the driver's pockets. These baggies looked like the ones that commonly contain drugs. When asked, the driver told officers that the baggies contained Synthetic Marijuana commonly called K2. The driver was taken into custody and the vehicle was seized. Occurred on 04/02/17 at 03:05 am.
