Report for 04/05/2017

Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University of Texas At Austin Police Department Patrol Officers between Monday 04/03/17 and Wednesday 04/05/17. Gregory Gymnasium 2101 Speedway Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT staff member reported a suspicious person near the gym. The staff member recognized the individual as someone who had snuck into the gym (which is illegal by the way), filmed the encounter and put it on YouTube. The YouTube “star” makes videos of pranks and flirting with young women in awkward situations. The subject of his last video was essentially a confession to theft of service from our campus. He deleted that video, but worry not! We were sure to make copies. Officers responded to the area and located the man. The man was in the process of filming another video when officers issued him a criminal trespass warning. In words he'll understand: it's not a prank, bro. Come back to the forty acres and you'll film your next video in the local jail. Occurred on 04/03/17 at 12:50 pm. Intersection of San Jacinto and Dean Keeton Driving Without a License/Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility: A UTPD officer observed a vehicle with expired registration. The officer stopped the vehicle and determined that the driver did not have a license nor did he have current vehicle insurance. The officer recognized that this person need not be on the road so he was taken into custody and the vehicle was seized. Occurred on 04/04/17 at 03:42 am. St. Austin Catholic School 2026 Guadalupe Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A UTPD officer on foot patrol observed a man sleeping in a doorway of the school while it was in session. The officer woke the man, identified him and summoned a school administrator. The administrator said that the suspect did not have consent to be on the property. The sleeper was issued a criminal trespass for the school and ejected from their campus. Occurred on 04/04/17 at 3:15 pm. Flawn Academic Center 2304 Whitis Avenue Theft: A UT student reported that her watch was stolen from inside the building. The watch was unattended at the time of the theft. The estimated cost of replacing the watch is $100.00. Reported on 04/04/17 at 3:38 pm. Intersection of Dean Keeton and Whitis Avenue Driving While Intoxicated: A UTPD officer happened upon a two vehicle crash in the intersection. The officer observed that one of the drivers was exhibiting signs of intoxication. During the interview, officers observed that the driver was attempting to use his cell phone. When asked who he was trying to call, the driver replied “ghostbusters.” This reminds me of an old saying: “the police never find it as funny as you do.” The driver told officers that he had taken “happy pills” before driving the car. Officers would go on to find hemp oil in the vehicle. After performing very poorly in the usual tests, the driver was taken to jail. Occurred on 04/04/17 at 6:22 pm. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 36 Alarm Reports, 15 Traffic Violations, 28 Foot Patrols, 10 Suspicious Activity Reports, 4 Medical Emergencies, 1 Assist Other Law Enforcement Agency Call, and 44 Public Assists between Monday 04/03/17 and Wednesday 04/05/17.
