Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University of Texas At Austin Police Department Patrol Officers between Thursday 04/14/17 and Wednesday 04/19/17. Note from the Author: I have been out of the office for a few days. Today's edition will feature only a selection of the calls for service during the period of time described above. –Officer Murphy. Jackson Geological Sciences Building 2305 Speedway Burglary of a Building: A UT staff member reported that someone entered their office and took items without consent. The staff member told officers that his office was unlocked when the unlawful entry was made. Reported on 04/18/17 at 3:03 pm. Crime Prevention Tip: Always lock your workspace, desk drawers and residence to prevent theft and unlawful entry. Lot 114 2200 Leona Street Burglary of a Vehicle: A UT student reported that his vehicle's window had been broken and items were taken from within. Reported on 04/13/17 at 3:21 pm. Jester Residence Hall 201 E. 21st Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: UTPD officers responded to a report of an intoxicated student near the elevator. When the officers arrived, they were not surprised when they found an intoxicated woman being helped by several friends. Officers released the student to a sober party. The case was administratively cleared. Occurred on 04/14/17 at 02:26 am. Goldsmith Hall 310 Inner Campus Drive Criminal Trespass: The University of Texas has approximately 170 call boxes installed around campus. One of these call boxes is well known to officers as the one that a certain person presses to ask to go to jail. This particular suspect has been issued 25 criminal trespass warnings. In fact, UTPD officers have been encountering this individual for so long, that all of the officers who encountered him the first time have long since retired. In this case, as in all the previous ones, the suspect activated an emergency callbox without good cause. Then, in his own way, he asked officers to take him to jail. Officers were happy to oblige the request. He was issued a fresh criminal trespass warning and transported to the local jail. This trip to jail marked his 23rd arrest for criminal trespass at UT. Until next time, sir. Occurred on 04/17/17 at 01:31 am. Pickle Research Center 10100 Burnet Road Driving While Intoxicated: A UTPD Security Guard observed an individual passed out in the driver's seat of a vehicle at the entrance to the campus. The guard also observed that the vehicle appeared to have fresh damage. Officers arrived and confirmed that the driver was indeed passed out. They also observed that he smelled strongly of alcohol. The officers ultimately woke the driver but reported that he had a great deal of difficulty staying awake. The driver told officers that he only drank one beer. If he was telling the truth it must have been an absolutely massive beer to result in that level of intoxication. After performing poorly on the usual tests, the driver was transported to the local jail where we're told they serve no beer at all. Occurred on 04/18/17 at 04:43 am. 600 Block of W. 30th Street Driving While Intoxicated/Driving While License Invalid-No Insurance: A UTPD officer observed a vehicle that was driving erratically and nearly struck a bicyclist. The officer pulled the vehicle and spoke with the driver. The officer was able to detect the odor of alcohol on the breath of the driver. The driver told officers that he had “a couple of drinks.” Those drinks must have disagreed with the driver's palate because was covered in his own vomit. Everyone's a critic. The driver performed very poorly on the usual tests and was transported to Travis County Central Booking where he was given a very nice set of striped jail clothes to replace his soiled attire. Occurred on 04/17/17 at 12:58 am. Pharmacy Building 2409 W. University Avenue Credit/Debit Card Abuse: A UT credit card was used to make more than $11,000 dollars in fraudulent charges. The investigation is on-going. Reported on 04/18/17 at 4:52 pm. 700 Block of West Pearl Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A UTPD officer observed an individual sleeping in an alleyway. The officer woke the person and recognized him as someone that has extensive involvement with UTPD for bicycle theft and narcotics. The officer, with the suspect's permission, performed a search and found drug paraphernalia. The items were seized and the suspect was released without charge. Occurred on 04/16/17 at 11:55 pm. 2300 Block of Guadalupe Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A UTPD officer observed an individual loitering on private property. The officer knew the individual to have extensive involvement with UTPD for drug-related charges. Unsurprisingly, officers found that the possessed drug paraphernalia and a small amount of marijuana. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the local jail. Occurred on 04/15/17 at 09:58 pm. Moore-Hill Residence Hall 214 E. 21st Street Theft: A UT student reported that her bicycle was taken from a rack near the dormitory. The bicycle was secured with a belt lock at the time of theft.
