Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by The University of Texas At Austin Police Department Patrol Officers between Thursday 04/20/2017 and Monday 04/24/17. Engineering Education Research Center 304 E. 24th Street Assault: Two contractors became involved in a physical altercation with their supervisor. The investigation is ongoing. Reported on 04/20/17 at 08:53 am. Jester Residence Hall 201 E. 21st Street Criminal Trespass: UTPD officers were dispatched to the area in regards to a suspicious person. The person was said to be a suspect in a possible theft from earlier in the day. Officers quickly located the suspect. Normally, I'd say that the officers identified him however; the suspect gave several false identities including a particular deity. Officers sifted through the man's nonsense and ultimately discovered his true identity. He was found to have been issued two prior criminal trespass warnings, is known to threaten public servants and is a self-reported gang member. Occurred on 04/20/17 at 1:15 pm. 2100 Block of University Avenue Criminal Trespass Warning: UTPD officers were dispatched to the area in regards to a report of a solicitor near the Littlefield Fountain. Officers quickly located man (who shares a name with a beloved cartoon character) and issued him a criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 04/20/17 at 1:26 pm. Communications Building B 2504-B Whitis Avenue Theft: A bicycle belonging to The University of Texas was removed from a bike rack near the building. Using their magic, our gallant Police Communications Operators were able to easily track the movements of the bicycle and relayed that information to officers. Officers quickly located the suspect and took him into custody. He was then transported to the local jail where he got to hang out with the Criminal Trespass arrestee mentioned above. Occurred on 04/20/17 at 1:31 pm. Almetris Duren Residence Hall 2624 Whitis Avenue Possession of Drug Paraphernalia/Possession of Marijuana: UTPD officers were dispatched to the area in regards to a report of the smell of burning marijuana. Officers were easily able to track the smell to its source and found the culprits. The suspects surrendered their drugs and related paraphernalia. Two students were issued citations and released from the scene. Occurred on 04/21/17 at 1:15 am. Officer Murphy's Pro-Tip: Stop smoking marijuana in the dorms. It makes your neighbors think less of you and it's very easy for the police to find you. See above for evidence of that fact. 500 Block of W. 16th Street Public Intoxication: A patrolling UTPD officer observed three males who appeared to be partaking in alcoholic beverages near the roadway. The officer stopped to talk to the males and observed that one of the three appeared to be highly intoxicated. The suspect was unable to walk without assistance and nearly stumbled into traffic. The officer took the suspect into custody and transported him to the local jail. Occurred on 04/21/17 at 3:45 pm. Union Building 2308 Whitis Avenue Theft: A UT student reported that her wallet was stolen from inside a restroom in the building. The wallet had been unattended for not more than one minute at the time of theft. Reported on 04/21/17 at 10:44 pm. College of Business Administration 2110 Speedway Public Intoxication: UTPD officers responded to the area after a report of a “drunk and belligerent person” aggressively panhandling in the area. Officers located the suspect a few blocks away. They determined that he was both drunk and belligerent. They took him into custody, transported him to the nearby lock-up and issued him a criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 04/21/17 at 11:30 pm. Perry-Castañeda Library 101 E. 21st Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: Officers responded to the area after a report of someone throwing water balloons at passing cars. Officers located a suspect and determined that he was under 21 years old and had consumed alcoholic beverages. He was issued a citation and released from the scene. Occurred on 04/22/17 at 03:59 am. Performing Arts Center 510 E. 23rd Street Assault: A patron attempted to enter the facility with a prohibited water bottle. The staff member explained that outside water bottles were prohibited inside the venue. The patron responded by ramming his wheelchair into the staff member. The staff member was taken aback but was uninjured. An officer witnessed the exchange and spoke to the suspect. The suspect told the officer that he was a “terrorist cop” and stated that the officer was “why people got guns to shoot at you all.” The officer issued the suspect a citation for Class C Assault and was released from the scene. Occurred on 04/22/17 at 1:38 pm. Communications Building B 2504-B Whitis Avenue Theft/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia/Unlawful Use of Criminal Instrument: A bicycle belonging to The University of Texas was removed from a bike rack near the building. Our Police Communications Operators peered into their crystal ball and were able to track the bicycle's movements. Officer quickly located and detained the would-be thief who (surprise) was in possession of burglary tools and drug paraphernalia. The suspect went to jail and all those items were seized as evidence. UTPD is considering just putting the bicycles under a box and stick trap. It's that easy. Occurred on 04/22/17 at 9: 15 pm.
