Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus criminal activity reported to or observed by The University of Texas At Austin Police Department Patrol Officers between 07/31/2017 and 08/06/2017 Note: We're back! The Campus Watch was on break during the Freshman and Transfer Orientation process so that we could maximize the time we had with the newest members of the Longhorn Community. The Campus Watch will run in a weekly format for the immediate future. You can always check our official crime log at the link provided at the bottom of this page. Today, we present a selection of significant incidents from the past week. Feedback Request: We love your feedback! Gregory Gym 2101 Speedway Theft: A UT student reported that his bicycle was stolen from a bike rack near the building. He reported that the bike was secured with a chain lock. The estimated value of the bicycle is $450.00. Reported on 07/31/2017 at 11:32 am. Crime Prevention Tip: Use a U-Lock in combination with a chain lock to secure your bike. Martin Luther King Theft: Construction equipment was stolen from a job site. The total loss is estimated to be $1700.00. Reported on 07/31/17 at 2:41 pm. 2800 Block of Guadalupe Street Driving While License Invalid/Possession of Substance in Penalty Group 4/Assist Outside Agency (Warrant Arrest): A UTPD officer observed a vehicle operating without headlights when required. The officer stopped the vehicle and determined that the driver's license was suspended and he did not have insurance for the vehicle. The officer also determined that the driver had an active warrant for Driving While License Invalid. The driver was taken into custody and transported to Travis County Jail. A search of the vehicle yielded 5 pills for which the driver did not have a prescription. Occurred on 07/31/17 at 11:02 pm. 1000 Block of Nueces Street Driving While Intoxicated/Possession of Marijuana (less than 2oz): A UTPD officer observed a vehicle cross the center yellow line and briefly drive into oncoming traffic. The officer initiated a traffic stop and spoke with the driver. The officer detected what he believed to be the odor of freshly burnt marijuana. A search of the vehicle yielded exactly that. After performing poorly on the standardized tests, the driver was taken into custody and transported to Travis County Jail. Occurred on 08/01/17 at 01:27 am. Officer Murphy's Pro-Tip: Never drink and drive. Don't do drugs and drive. Don't text and drive. Just drive. Lives depend on it. 2300 Block of Guadalupe Public Intoxication: A UT Officer observed a male passed out in front of a doorway. The officer woke the individual and determined that he was intoxicated to the point of being a danger to himself or others. He was transported to Travis County Central Booking. Occurred on 08/02/2017 at 12:20 pm. 300 Block of West 17th Street Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor: A UTPD officer observed a vehicle driving the wrong way on Guadalupe Street. The officer initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver. The officer determined that the driver was under 21 years of age and under the influence of alcohol. After the standard tests, the driver was transported to Travis County Central Booking. Occurred on 08/02/17 at 01:38 am. Dell Seton Medical Center 1500 Red River Resisting Arrest/Criminal Trespass: UT officers were dispatched to the medical center after an individual refused to leave the premises. The suspect was given several warnings by security staff and police officers. After refusing the final request to leave, the officers moved to take the suspect into custody. The suspect violently resisted and attempted to spit on officers. The offender was ultimately taken into custody and transported to Travis County Central Booking. One UTPD officer sustained a minor injury. Occurred on 08/03/17 at 02:30 am. 2300 Block of San Jacinto Possession of Marijuana (Less than 2oz)/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A UTPD officer observed a vehicle with expired license plates and upon further inspection saw that the driver was not wearing a seat belt when required. The officer stopped the vehicle and could smell the odor of marijuana emanating from within. A search yielded a small amount of the substance. The driver was issued a citation and released from the scene. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 757 calls for service (180 of those were alarms), performed 195 traffic stops, made 22 criminal arrests, wrote 54 citations, conducted 55foot patrols and investigated 5 welfare concerns between 07/31/2017 and 08/06/2017.
